EMPLOYMENT EXPERIENCE

December 2014- March 2023

Kaufman Community Health Center: One of three providers providing general medical care to the medically underserved of Kaufman county and the surrounding towns. Duties include but are not limited to diagnosis, management and treatment of patients with multiple co-morbidities including diabetes, hypertension, hyperlipidemia and other common internal medicine complaints. I also function as a clinical preceptor to both Physician Assistant and Nurse Practitioner students.

May 2013 – July 2014

Royse City Medical: One of two providers in the general practice half of a general practice and interventional pain management office. Responsible for general medical and minor surgical and orthopedic care for a patient population of approximately 1,500 patients. Manage common internal medicine complaints including complicated and uncomplicated hypertension, diabetes, hyperlipidemia, osteoarthrosis, testicular hypofunction and hypothyroidism. Additionally function as a clinical instructor for both P.A. and N.P. students.

March 2008 – May 2012

Sandknop Family Practice: Large multi-provider Family Practice office in Greenville, Texas. Primary provider to military veterans in the practice. Managed common internal medicine complaints including complicated and uncomplicated hypertension, diabetes, hyperlipidemia, osteoarthrosis, testicular hypofunction and hypothyroidism. Duties also included general, surgical and orthopedic evaluation prior to consultation with VA referral services to a veteran population of approximately 1,300.

March 2007 – March 2008

Jordan’s Place Pediatrics: Large general pediatric practice in Sulphur Springs, Texas. Functioned as a general pediatrics P.A. both in the office setting and the local hospital.

January 2000 – March 2007

Westlake Medical Center: Sole provider in a rural health clinic in Quinlan, Texas. Provided general medical care to a large rural patient population including all aspects of Family Practice including general pediatric, well woman and well male evaluations, management of common internal medical complaints including complicated and uncomplicated hypertension, diagnosis and management of coronary artery disease, diabetes, testicular hypofunction, and hypothyroidism. Performed minor surgical procedures. Performed uncomplicated fracture care/casting.

January 1999 – January 2000

Mid Cities Orthopedics Bedford, Texas: First PA to an orthopedist in a spine surgery practice. Duties included evaluation of new and returning patients, casting, performance of pre-operative history and physicals and hospital discharge summaries. In hospital setting performed pre- and post-operative hospital rounds and functioned as a surgical first assistant.

July 1989 – January 1999

John Cochran VAMC St. Louis, Missouri: PA for the orthopedic surgery department of the Department of Veteran’s Affairs medical center. This VA was part of the Washington University Orthopedic Surgery residency program. Interacted daily and scrubbed regularly with the residents and attending MD. In addition to operating room duties was also responsible for seeing patients in the ambulatory clinic setting, casting, performance of pre-operative history and physicals and responsible for scheduling all of the elective surgical procedures for the resident staff and attending.

July 1983 – July 1989

Overton Brooks VAMC Shreveport, Louisiana: PA in the Internal Medicine clinic seeing a variety of general internal medical patients. Additionally all medicine PAs there rotated periodically on the in-patient services caring for hospitalized veterans.

July 1982 – July 1983

Fox Dean and Smith Orthopedics Shreveport, Louisiana: The first PA in a general orthopedics practice performed office evaluation of both new and returning patients, performed pre-operative history and physicals and dictation of discharge summaries, post-operative hospital rounding and functioned as a surgical first assistant.

July 1980 – July 1982

Grindle Medical and Surgical Mansfield, Louisiana: The first PA in a small rural general surgical and general practice office. Duties included seeing new and returning general medical patients, performance of pre-operative history and physicals, general surgical first assisting, hospital rounding and ICU care of general medical patients. Responsible for initial evaluation of all emergency room patients. Duties also included monthly rounding at the local nursing home and geriatric medication management, and functioned as the parish deputy coroner.

MILITARY HISTORY

August 1973 – 1976

Special Forces (Green Beret) Aidman: Assigned to 5th Special Forces Group (Airborne) Ft. Bragg, North Carolina. Responsible for helping maintain the health of the Special Forces operational detachment I was assigned to.

July 1981 – July 2001

Aeromedical Physician Assistant (Flight Surgeon): Assigned to various Army National Guard aviation units. Responsible for maintaining the health of the pilots and ground crew of the various aviation units I was assigned to.
