Investigating reports made to the department with concerns for the health and welfare of children in the three counties of Knox, Lincoln, and Waldo located in the expansive area of Midcoast Maine, each port prioritized with a designated 24 or 72 hour response time. Interviewing necessary case members and reporting results in a collaborative supervisory setting to generate next steps and direction for investigation. Preparing petitions for the court should a child be in a dangerous situation requiring immediate removal from the home or a jeopardy petition meaning potential removal from the home. Working with law enforcement, medical professionals, schools, and providers to gather information on each case. Using communication skills involving team interactions within the department as well as Family Team Meetings involving families in need of DHHS support. Using personal judgement to gather resources for families, making appropriate referrals for families in need of services including mental health, case management, counseling, substance abuse counseling, substance testing services, parenting classes and a variety of other resources families need to succeed. Transferring cases from the investigation phase to a Service Case in the Permanency Department so a family may receive further monitoring by the department, work on reunification plans, and have support following up with services. Serving on call in the Children Emergency Services (CES) on weekends and holidays after normal office hours. Working on emergency child placement after hours when a child in state custody is in the hospital or is not in a home placement (hotel status). Serving as a witness for DHHS in court and working with DHHS attorneys to prepare for court cases. With sensitivity to time lines; executing the tools and assessments to determine risk for the family and their particular situation, determining whether evidence supports “findings” or “no findings” and explaining why in the closing summary.
BHH Case Management Supervisor

Supervision of 16 case managers, 3 peer supports, and over 300 BHH cases statewide, assigning cases, case consultation, organizing and hosting supervisory multi-disciplinary panel sessions (clinical supervision for case managers), organizing and hosting monthly supervision meetings statewide for case managers (clinical and informational), obtaining guest speakers for such meetings, approving progress notes, finalizing treatment plans for approval, hiring and training of new case managers and peer support specialists. Providing annual reviews for all personnel under my supervision, approving payroll and mileage for those under my supervision, providing extra support when clients presented in crisis. Driving to all locations (3 statewide) to meet with case managers individually.

Responsibilities included monitoring the progress of individuals during the period of probation or under bail conditions. Also preparing and executing evidence-based behavioral modification groups working with both male and female groups as well as individual sessions. Reporting to the judicial branch client engagement and active participation in groups. Drug and alcohol counseling were included in most interventions.
Detox Counselor
Midwestern Connecticut Council on Alcoholism - Danbury, CT
September 2013 to January 2016
Responsibilities included intake, Bio Psycho Social assessment, treatment plan, and aftercare planning for detox clients after determining level of need and best plan of care. MCCA provided a 12 bed detox primarily addressing alcohol, opiate, and benzodiazepine addicted clients. Group and individual counseling as well as maintaining safety conditions and procedures on the unit.
28 Day Program, responsibilities included treatment plans, individual sessions weekly, and group interventions. Maintaining protocol if the 28 day program schedule and implementing safety precautions and standards.
