Resumė

In the area of business acumen, I have co-owned and managed a video store with a multifaceted business in video rental, video equipment sales and video tape sales. This business was a vibrant part of the commerce of Campbellsville, KY for four years. This was a bi-vocational position held until I was promoted to a more dual- purpose position of administrator and faculty member at the local university serving as chairman of the departments of art, theater and music.

As a disabled individual, I have had diabetes mellitus (Type I) since the age of 5. I was assisted in my university studies by the national disabilities association and the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 each year throughout my undergraduate studies. In 2018, I developed Charcot Foot disease, a rare but serious complication that can affect persons with peripheral neuropathy, especially those with diabetes mellitus. Charcot affects the bones, joints, and soft tissues of the foot or ankle. The bones become weak and can break and the joints in the foot or ankle can dislocate. If not caught in its earliest stage, the joints in the foot collapse and the foot eventually becomes deformed. I now wear specially designed shoes with special inserts that help to slow the continuation of complications of Charcot. I also wear an external brace on my right foot that will be required for the remainder of my life. Even with the brace and special shoes, I am mobile.

Dr. J. Robert Gaddis served as head administrator in the School of Music at Campbellsville University for twenty-six years and held the rank of Professor of Music. In July 2012, Gaddis stepped down from the Dean position and returned to the full-time faculty status.

Dr. Gaddis has been listed in Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in American Education, Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers and was named as Distinguished Professor at Campbellsville University in 1999. In 2003, Dr. Gaddis was awarded the Distinguished Service Award from Kentucky Music Educators Association. He founded the MAM program being offered at the Northern Baptist Theological Seminary in Recife, Brazil from 2001-2011. Dr. Gaddis was the Guest Conductor of the Busan (Korea) Symphony Orchestra in June of 2005 and has served as guest conductor of various honors bands and choirs in Kentucky. In 2013, Dr. Gaddis was guest conductor of the Tainan University of Technology Symphonic Winds in Tainan, Taiwan and guest conductor of the International Youth Music Festival in Tainan, Taiwan.

Dr. Gaddis holds the Bachelor of Music and Master of Arts in Music Education degrees from Western Kentucky University and the Doctor of Education degree with an emphasis in Music Education from the University of Kentucky. Before coming to Campbellsville University in 1982, Dr. Gaddis directed chorus and bands for seven years in public schools of Kentucky.

Since Dr. Gaddis became the head administrator of the music program, the program grew from 27 undergraduate music majors to 160 music majors in undergraduate and graduate programs. Also, the program achieved national accreditation with the National Association of Schools of Music (NASM). The program also added a marching band, various wind and percussion ensembles, choral ensembles, opera workshop and an orchestra and strings program. Dr. Gaddis served for several years as a visitor/evaluator in the accrediting process for National Association of Schools of Music.

As Dean of Music, Dr. Gaddis has taken the University Jazz Band on three concert tours of Brazil and has managed and co-organized four concert tours of Europe for the University Chorale.
