Breast Health Nurse/Genetics (CBCN)
Duties: Tracking and monitoring all positive breast cancer patients to ensure they transition seamlessly through the multidisciplinary treatment plan.
Making various appointments for tests, treatments or providers and remove any barriers to care.
Responsible for the education, instruction and ordering genetic testing for eligible patients. Responsible for assisting with genetic counseling referrals for patients with complex genetic mutations for hereditary diseases.

Breast Patient Care Navigator (ONS-CBCN Certified)
Developed the Breast Patient Care Navigator Program at Oak Hill Hospitals Women’s Imaging Center.
Developed and published a Patient Care Journal. The journal provides the newly diagnosed breast cancer patient with educational material on surgery, cancer treatment, side effects and related issues. In addition, the patient can keep appointments, medication lists, lab and test results and other important information in one convenient location.
Monitor all initial abnormal breast imaging and ensure the patient receives timely follow up.
Assist physicians and patients in scheduling breast biopsies or surgical consults in a timely manner and provide follow up.
Provide one on one educational/counseling visit with patients that will be having breast surgery and other cancer treatment.
Act as a patient advocate by monitoring the needs of the patient throughout the cancer trajectory and eliminating any barriers. Provide referrals to various resources by assessing the needs of the patient and family.
Communicate with the care team to help the patient transition smoothly from one specialist to another.
Core member of the Cancer Committee of a Commission on Cancer accredited facility.
Core member of the Breast Cancer Subcommittee
Instrumental in obtaining the Breast Imaging Center of Excellence accreditation for the breast program.
Core member of the committee working toward becoming a NAPBC accredited Breast Center.
Responsible for bringing the Sarah Cannon Score Registry and Moffitt genetic counselors to Oak Hill Hospital to fulfill CoC standards requirement.
Participate in lectures and radio spots to educate the community on breast cancer and breast health.
Facilitate a monthly breast cancer support group focusing on those who are newly diagnosed, currently going through treatment and are just beginning life as a survivor.
Clinical Documentation Specialist CCDS (not current)
Key member in building clinical documentation programs at St. Mary’s of Michigan then Oak Hill Hospital in Brooksville Florida.
Worked in conjunction with physicians and coding specialists to ensure that proper documentation was obtained within the medical record to meet required industry guidelines.
By ensuring accurate documentation, the hospitals were able to lower the case mix index and obtain optimal reimbursement.
Created an orientation manual for new employees to streamline orientation to productivity time.
Hospice Nurse/Administrator
Provided holistic care for hospice patients and their family members through accurate assessment skills. Provide or refer care needed as determined by assessing the four domains; physical, psychosocial, spiritual and emotional during end of life.
The majority of on hospice patients were those at the end stages of cancer. One of the most important skills acquired was management of pain and other side effects of cancer progression and treatment.
Promoted to Patient Care Coordinator, an administrative position. Responsible for approximately 70 employees such as field nurses, social workers, chaplains and home health aides. Ensuring that the patients and families received the care needed 24 hours a day and 7 days a week.
Responsible for facilitating monthly multidisciplinary team meetings with the purpose that all hospice patients meet MDS requirements for meeting hospice care and that the patient is receiving the care that is needed.
Assisted our physicians with monthly home visits to ensure all hospice patients meet MDS requirements for meeting hospice care criteria.
Monitored chart documentation of all disciplines for quality assurance.
Hospital Staff Nurse
After graduating as a nurse, I worked on a busy neuro-med surge floor where I learned skills such as; time management, assessment, coordination of ancillary services, documentation, wound care, dietary needs, blood administration, medication management etc.
Worked on an oncology med-surg floor, volunteering as a float nurse and gained experience in side effect management and pain control.
Transferred to coronary care/intensive care unit to enrich my growth as a nurse. Cared for critical patients that were on multiple IV medications, intubated and on ventilation, tracheostomy care, extensive wounds, post op care, cardiac monitoring etc.
Transferred to the emergency room after being a float to the department. I furthered my skills in areas such as; triage, trauma care, emergent cardiac care.
Attended many hospital offered continuing education such as; critical care certification review, telemetry monitoring, trauma nurse certification, and ACLS
