WAYS TO BEAT THE HEAT
HEAT RELATED ILLNESSES: KNOW THE SIGNS
Temperatures are rising and so is the risk of heat illness.
- Drink plenty of water
- Avoid dehydrating liquids like coffee,
soda, tea and alcohol
- Schedule frequent breaks
- Avoid direct sun
- Pace yourself

Red, hot or damp skin
Confusion
Losing consciousness
Call 911 immediately
Move the worker to a cooler place
DO NOT give the person anything to drink

Cool, moist skin
Dilated pupils
Thirst
Tiredness or weakness
Give the worker plenty of water
Cool worker with cold compress
Loosen clothes

Red, raised bumps on skin especially
neck or chest
Worker may complain of itchy,
irritable skin
Worker should rest for at least a few hours
before returning to strenuous work
Give plenty of water

Move worker to cooler, less humid area
