Olson Engineering Mont Belvieu, Texas 11/2022 to 2/2023

Senior Instrument and Controls Engineer supporting projects at ExxonMobil Refinery and Motiva. Specified instruments, valves and controls strategies plant upgrades and modifications.

Principal Controls Electrical Engineer

SMC industries Houston, Texas 3/2022 to 11/2022

Project Manager and Engineer responsible for the maintenance, upgrading, and optimization of existing production machines, production of new machines with increased capabilities and shorter production cycles, and upgrading of plant computer network capabilities. I specify and order parts, create and maintain drawings in SOLIDWORKS and AutoCAD, create and maintain PLC programs in Siemens Step 7, Automation Direct Productivity, and Eaton ELC, programming Routers, VFDs, and other devices. (I am working six and seven days a week as a salaried employee and keep getting even more project requests and responsibilities.)

Forced retirement due a temporary medical issue and then Covid

Baytown, TX 3/2019 to 3/2022

Contract Senior Power and Controls Engineer

C&I Engineers (STSI) Louisville, KY 12/2018 to 3/2019

Senior P&C Engineer taking over doing PCR layout, protective relay schematics, and wiring drawings for a group of electric power distribution projects at a major refinery to increase available power and network reliability. System analysis and relay settings done using ETAP. (Customer moved my work to direct employee I had mentored.)

Contract Project Engineer IV 9/2018 to 11/2018

Holly Frontier Refinery (Nesco Resource), El Dorado, Kansas

Hired to be Electrical Technical Authority for large 4-year ($113M) Coker Revamp for a medium sized oil refinery. Worked on preliminary DCS design and electrical substation bid reviews. (Work was deferred at the end of the current stage gate by corporate management.)

Project Manager/Lead Engineer 8/2014 to 3/2018

Taylor and Hill (Engage PEO), Texas City, Texas

Phone 409-***-****

Lead Electrical Engineer and multiple disciplinary project manager at BP Texas City Chemicals doing upgrades and modifications at a large aromatics chemical processing plant. I took either a statement of need or of a problem and proposed and developed a cost-effective solution in conjunction with plant process control, corporate and plant technical authorities, plant operations and maintenance, and plant project engineers. Projects ranged from everyday maintenance issues to $30 million dollars (for example, replacing all the switchgear, MCCs, and power cables for an entire unit). Supervised design work on Honeywell upgrades to Experion. I worked with vendors to specify and get quotes for valves, motors, transformers, and instruments. I was responsible for developing budgets and directing the technical design work of three engineers and seven designers. I worked on P&IDs, one-line diagrams, loop diagrams, wiring diagrams for LV/MV switchgear/MCCs. (Work slowed and my tasks were absorbed by the customer’s cheaper direct salaried employees.)

Senior Engineer 2/2014 to 7/2014

Universal Pegasus, Houston, Texas

Phone 713-***-****

I assisted on the power and was the design lead for two pumping stations and a large metering and distribution stations on a 24”(300,00 bpd heavy crude oil pipeline had 8,000 HP soft-start pumps and the metering stationing had two change-of-custody metering skids, two provers, and multiple flow control valves. (Next project cancelled leaving me as a surplus employee.)

Technical Specialist III 7/2013 to 1/2014

CSD Engineers, Houston, Texas

Phone 832-***-****

Project Manager and Lead Design Engineer on wide range of projects in the oil and gas and heavy industrial fields.
