Duties: Paint a variety of surfaces of stationary, mobile equipment, applying prime, intermediate, finish coats using Chemical Agent Resistant Coating (CARC) and alkyd paints. Paint one or more of a variety of surfaces, to include vehicles, mobile equipment parts, assemblies, fixed industrial, engineering equipment, artillery mounts, assemblies, fire control instruments, miscellaneous ordnance supply items, where appearance as well as surface protection is important. Use spray gun to paint prime, intermediate, finish coats. Touch up holidays (missed spots). Perform undercoating, rust treatment, zinc primer, heat resisting paint, CARC. Prepare surfaces, assure surfaces are properly prepared. Assure protection of surrounding areas, equipment, make minor repairs to equipment as required. Work with specifications required for regular army shipment, very strict standards for other shipments, specifications pertinent to items used locally. Make determinations that specifications are met and desired thickness is obtained. Check for smoothness, complete coverage, avoidance of bubbles, runs, etc. Mix paint to required blend of color specified, or in case of matching paint for spot painting, simply add a darker or lighter color paint to secure desired blend. Add thinner to obtain proper consistency, strain before filling containers. Apply colors such as green, gray, yellow, aluminum, metallic, tan, red. Apply paint specified such as gloss enamel, semi-gloss enamel, lacquer. Work inside paint booth or under open air-roof. Paint a variety of surfaces of aluminum, steel road wheels, components, applying prime, intermediate, finish coats using Chemical Agent Resistant Coating (CARC), alkyd paints. Use templates to protect from overspray on rubber, keep mating surfaces free from paint, if required by applicable drawing. Paint one or more of a variety of road wheels, steel, aluminum, component surfaces where appearance as well as surface protection is important. Use spray gun to paint prime, intermediate, finish coats. Prepare surfaces, assure surfaces are properly prepared. Assure protection of surrounding areas, equipment. Make minor repairs to equipment as required. Work with specifications required for regular Army shipment, very strict standards for other shipments, specifications pertinent to items used locally. Make determinations that specifications are met, desired thickness is obtained. Check for smoothness, complete coverage, avoidance of bubbles, runs, etc. Follow procedures for containerization of hazardous waste. Perform water break test. Mix paint to required blend of color specified, or, in case of matching paint for spot painting, simply add a darker or lighter color paint to secure desired blend. Add thinner to obtain proper consistency, strain before filling containers. Spray paint such items as combat, tactical vehicles, engineering equipment, secondary items such as power packs, containers, assemblies, components, etc., using various colors of enamel lacquer, for protection, appearance of items. Routinely apply Chemical Resistant Coating (CARC). As necessary, apply chemically- compounded paints designed for special purposes such as crinkle finishes, nonskid, rubber coatings, etc. On exterior surfaces, create exact reproductions of camouflage pattern prescribed by applicable drawing, other tech data. Spray specified variety of colors following irregular outlines in order to create camouflage effect. Use premixed paints, thin or add dryer or flattening agents to assure proper finish, thickness, fill spray tank, adjust spray gun. As necessary, apply stencils, silk screens, decals to face plates where cosmetic appearance, accuracy, legibility are critical requirements. Read, interpret technical data such as Technical Manuals (TMs) Depot Maintenance Work Requirements (DMWR's), Technical Bulletins

(TB's), print to determine types, color(s), various etc. Clean, maintain, adjust nozzles, restrictors based on painting assignments, maintain proper air pressure. Visually inspect surfaces to assure proper preparation for painting. As necessary, direct or instruct lower-graded employees on proper procedures. Paint items on overhead conveyor. Estimate amount of paint required for each job. Inspect painted work for complete coverage. Handle, store, dispose of hazardous material/waste. Wear protective equipment (Barrier Cream, airline respirator with a HEPA filter, goggles, coveralls, gloves, and head covering). Wear rubber gloves, goggles, respirator, and/or positive pressure hood and full body suit. Operate forklift up to 10,000 pound capacity, tow motors to facilitate work processes. Work is performed under minimum to normal supervision. Instructions are given verbally and in writing. Work is spot-checked while in progress, inspected upon completion for compliance with instructions, adherence to established practices, standards. I check with supervisor only to clarify instructions where departures from standard practices are involved. Supervisor issues work assignments, provides standard operating procedures, advises as to specifications applicable to the various components. I am relied upon to schedule priorities of work and accomplish painting IAW instructions, directives, DMWR's, Mil Specs, TM's, TB's, etc. Knowledge of what types of paint go on each vehicle or part. Knowledge of paint to thinner or catalyst ratio. Follow all safety rules, regulations, wear all protective clothing, equipment necessary for jobs performing. Keep work area neat, clean in order to prevent accidents. Work independently, and as a team member, in order to accomplish the mission. Work under normal supervision.

Possess the ability to use and maintain tools and equipment. Possess an extensive knowledge of materials. Skilled in both dexterity and safety.
