Rajesh Ambadi
Database Technology Professional
Database Administrator, Fiberlink, USA
Jun 2011 – April 2014
1. Responsible for managing the databases and
applications for SaaS environment hosting our MDM
solutions. Databases are spread across development, test and production and standby environments.
Applications include Web/Cloud based OLTP, ETL and reporting tools.
2. Automation of database administration tasks using Puppet, Ansible and Shell scripts.
3. Performed major database upgrades including upgrade from 10g to 11g.
4. Unicode/UTF8 database character set migration. The project was challenging because of non-convertible data and large database size. Lot of coordination done with Application owners to fix data issues.
5. Implemented Direct-NFS and Linux HugePage for
better database performance.
6. Setup Oracle Dataguard replication to a standby site for disaster recovery.
7. Database DR tests were regularly conducted in the form of site failover and backup restores from tape. 8. Advocated and implemented zero-downtime best
practices to reduce database outages.
9. Reviewed and enforced database best practices.
10.Routine tasks involved capacity planning, performance tuning, monitoring, database restore tests, DR tests and dba on-call rotation. Database performance was reviewed weekly, problems noted and actively worked until resolution. Various performance reports(ADDM, AWR, ASH, Segment Advisors, SQL Tuning Advisors)
were also looked into regularly to proactively catch and fix performance problems.

Database Administrator, Fiberlink, India
December 2006 - May 2011
1. Responsible for setting up Production, Test and Dev environments for SaaS applications. Environments
included databases and applications. Applications used DBCP and Oracle connection pools with Oracle JDBC
thick and thin drivers.
2. Tuning application JDBC connection pools for optimal performance.
3. Database 10g upgrade in 2007. Migration was also to ASM storage, so lot of data had to be moved from old filesystem-based storage. Lots of scripting,
export/import and validation was involved.
4. Migration to faster storage on NFS with 10GigE network and Jumbo Frames with minimal downtime. Plan had
to take into account minimal downtime requirement, large data volume, performance testing, capture key metrics before and after the changes, and publish
performance improvements using key DB metrics
graphs.
5. Upgraded to new Linux servers on faster Intel/Nehalem processors with minimal downtime. Project involved significant amount of prep work for planning and
testing.
Project Engineer, Wipro, India
April 2004 – Dec 2006
1. Part of a database specialist team managing database standards for all the project groups in the BU.
2. SQL and PL/SQL code reviews to ensure compliance with the coding standards.
3. Optimize SQL, PL/SQL and database design to improve database performance.
4. Managed database instances for the group and also did data migrations.
5. Developed reusable database procedures and scripts for different projects and groups.
6. Worked as a SQL and stored procedure developer on multiple projects.
