Sterile Processing Technician:
Responsibilities included working in Central Processing, Sterile Supply and Endoscopy Lab workroom. In Central Processing; my job duties included a rotation between Float, Prep, Decontamination and Endoscopy. "Float" involved running smart packs, biologicals, and making sure the prep staff were assembling the necessary trays to meet the demands for the day and the next day's surgery schedule. Operating all of the machines was a major part of the Float process. This included operating the autoclaves, Sterrad 100S, Sterrad NX, V-pro, and unloading the cart containers and washers. I am familiar with such manufacturers as Getinge, StrerileLink and Steris. I also worked with biological monitoring incubators for daily biologicals, weekly biologicals, and necessary biologicals with implants. We had a system known as Censitrac that i used on the daily. Decontamination involved running daily tests of the ultra-sonic washer and Belimed. As well as the Gettinge washers and Cart Washer machines. I sorted and cleaned instruments according to AME guidelines and their IFU.
Prep (assembly) involved using a system known as Censitrac to assemble various types of specialties. Ranging from Orthopedics, Neurology, General, OB/Gyn, Urology, Nursing services, and Cardiovascular instrumentation. Implants were a major turn over at MRMC due to this establishment being one of the top trauma hospitals in Florence, SC. In Sterile Supply; I pulled cases according to a surgeon's preference card. Assisted the Operating Room with sending items or instruments needed down a tube system or the dumbwaiter while the case was being performed.
In Endoscopy; I cleaned and processed on average of 40 to 50 scopes a day. Scopes ranged from EGD, Colon, and specialty scopes such as ERCP, EUS, and EBUS. I had to ATP test specialty scopes. This was required every time the scope was used on a patient. As well as monthly ATP testing of all scopes.
