Nurse Attendant Tasks form part of RN’s responsibilities in the Isolated Red Zone:
●Makes bed. Keeps up the side table and room’s cleanliness and sanitation. Manages garbage and sharps disposal and segregation. Adheres to infection control protocols. Maintains inventory of supplies. Supplies and empties bed pans/ urinals; drains and measures urine output. Collects specimen and sends specimen to the laboratory.
●Setting up and maintenance of IV pole, infusion pump machine, pulse oximeter machine, wall mounted oxygen/ cylinder oxygen tanks, high flow machine, mechanical ventilator, traction equipment, sand bags, cardiac monitor machine, electrocardiogram (ECG) machine, blood pressure equipment.
●Measures abdominal girth. Weighs, lifts, turns and positions patient to his comfort. Dons and removes compression stockings and abdominal binder.
●Changes diaper. Assesses skin integrity. Massages patient with back clapping and postural draining after nebulization. Conducts teachings on breathing exercises. Supervises patient’s exercise routines and other range of motion stretches. Assists in patient’s ambulation to restroom. Transports patient between care facilities via wheelchair and stretcher while ensuring safety.

●Prepares patients’ exam and treatments.
●Prioritizes health issues and complaints. Resolves health problems. Collaborates with multidisciplinary healthcare members. Transcribes Doctors’ orders. Documents complaints, observations, problem, interventions performed, diagnostic results and nursing action outcomes. Completes nurse’s process.
●Provides assistance to doctors performing bedside procedures (wound assessment, cleaning, change dressing; chest tube thoracostomy {CT}, intrajugular {IJ} catherization). Supports other healthcare team needs.
●Administers oxygen. Troubleshoots high flow machine and mechanical ventilator. Monitors oxygen saturation.
●Conducts bowel preparation for diagnostics and surgery.
●Inserts nasogastric tube (NGT) for feeding and gastric lavage. Performs feeding via percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy (PEG).
●Performs intravenous (IV) insertion. Secures IV site. Administers IV fluids and medications, including parenteral nutrition. Administers blood products. Monitors untoward signs and symptoms.
●Conducts suctioning on ETT, oral orifice for clearing airway.
●Conducts cystoclysis. Monitors and prevents bleeding on dengue patients. Prevents bleeding from patients who undergone angiogram and post-surgery.
●Coordinates with local government units (LGU) before final discharge.
●Performs palliative and hospice care. Conducts post-mortem ceremonies.
●Conducts continuous and repetitive client health teachings. Promotes patient’s independence.
●Orients students on internship, newly hired nurses and staff.
