2017 - Created order caresets for Interventional Radiology procedures to prevent delays Identified delays in care for inpatients requiring an invasive procedure. Physicians order the procedure but did not write orders for NPO, labs, or hold blood thinners causing delays in treatment. Submitted a proposal to create ordersets in the EMR that would attach NPO, labs, and blood thinner orders to each procedure.
Worked with physicians, IT, and other IR departments across Banner to create caresets. I worked for 18 months creating ordersets on a system level, getting buy in from all Banner Facilities, piloting ordersets, collecting feedback, and updating ordersets once all feedback was received. Presented roll-out of ordersets at Hospitalists meetings, Leadership meetings, and department staff meetings, created education and tip sheets, and trained super-users to help with rollout. Page 4
2014 -2017 - Quality Counsel
Perform monthly audits on Procedural Sedation and Safe Procedural audits and report the results to the quality counsel each month. Audits are used to identify areas of weakness, ensure safe practices, identify areas of improvement, and results of implementations.
2014 - Process Improvement, Tissue Expander infections Identified an increase in infections s/p Mastectomy w/ tissue expander placement. Infection control swabbed the procedure room and OR’s and was unable to determine a cause. After further investigating I identified that the MA’s would draw them up the Saline Syringes in advance and save any unused syringes for the following day. I developed a new process for tissue expanders where only RN’s or NP’s would draw up saline at time of expansion using sterile technique. Infection rates dropped almost 70% within 3 months.
