CAREER STATEMENT

Permanent Interventional Cardiology consultant at Castle Hill Hospital, Hull University Teaching Hospitals.

I am keen to set up a cardiology unit for advanced coronary intervention by incorporating latest interventional techniques and set up a local training program if needed.

High risk patients including left main PCI including surgical turn-down.

Intra vascular lithotripsy (IVL)

Coronary rotational and orbital atherectomy

Chronic total occlusion (CTO) PCI through specialized techniques

CLINICAL AUDIT AND QUALITY IMPROVEMENT PROJECTS

I actively engage in clinical improvement projects and audit to help with my own clinical practice as well as to improve patient safety at the department or hospital level. I have undertaken multiple quality improvement projects, the highlights of which are summarized below.

2019 Designed and led audit for assessment of Lipid modification strategy as per NICE guidelines in patients with ACS after seeing patients in clinic post MI with higher than target LDL levels.

Presented at cardiology governance meeting, Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham.

2018 Designed and led audit on Effectiveness of Saturday cathlab list for patients waiting for IP cardiac catheterization following MI.

TEACHING

I have a keen interest in teaching and am regularly involved in teaching medical students, junior doctors and other staff including nurses and physiologists.

I worked as a junior lecturer in community medicine and public heath after my qualification. I received training in teaching methods and communication skills by attending training workshops and engaging in departmental CMEs. I helped in designing, implementing and delivering a teaching programme and was actively involved in teaching medical students from 1st year to 4th Year MBBS with at least 2-3 teaching sessions per week. During my time as lecturer, I helped in conducting and assessment of theory and practical exams.

Throughout my career, I have regularly engaged in regular teaching sessions with 3rd and 4th year medical students during their clinical attachment in cardiology. This involved group discussions as well as bed-side teaching.

I have mentored a colleague staff nurse for her Master’s degree and she successfully completed her course with distinction.

I have received training in object structured assessment of medical students in their clinical examinations and have been an examiner for 3rd, 4th and final year medical students.
