Every Saturday 0630-1530 January-May and Saturday + Sunday 0630 - 1530 May-August. Total of 8 students per rotation (16 per semester). Educated students on proper techniques of IV starts, Foley catheter insertion, sterile technique, and medication administration. Assisted in development of professional skills such as communication, team-work, self- motivation, EMR, time-management, organization, and delegation. Pre- and post- clinical evaluations and assessments graded weekly for critical thinking abilities and nursing skill development for each student. Advanced Practice Provider at UAB Neurosurgery. Initiated clinic start-up. Independent- run clinic with part-time collaborative MD clinic. Independent interpretation of all diagnostic studies followed by development and implementation of appropriate plan of care including, but not limited to, surgical referrals. Management of acute/chronic neurologic disorders in the adult patient. Advanced skill in EMR, Telehealth, collaboration, and some marketing. Proven clinical success of this independent outpatient-specialty center, along with consultant approval, has led to a departmental change toward independent clinics for all APPs in neurosurgery. Responsibilities included managing the flow of the clinical aspect while the collaborative MD managed the interventional procedures aspect. Medical background, assessment of current symptoms and physical exams were part of job duties. This position ended due to concerns raised over the company’s billing practices which led to unlawful termination. Hour were from 0645- 1830 Monday - Thursday, no call. June 2004 - February 2019
