Experience

Abbott Laboratories / Senior Scrum Master & IT Software Support Lead July 2021 – Present

During my time here, I have led a team of scrum masters where together we put into practice and maintained the SAFe methodology throughout the software development vascular division. While our teams became self-organizing, we have branched out and supported the project management teams across multiple divisions, as well as modular hardware to help create an agile process that works for them. As a leader, I am responsible for planning, organizing, and executing our quarterly PI planning meetings as well as our bi- weekly software demo for stakeholders. Using historic data, I was responsible for identifying a bottoms-up software timeline for our larger programs. I worked with our program managers to report that timeline to our executives as well as reporting software progress in weekly tactical meetings.

I met weekly and supported our program managers in managing the software timeline and providing projections based on current data. I am the JIRA administrator for our software development division and with the support of our IT department I manage the JIRA software process, schemes, and roles. my focus is on our software process and division. Even though my focus is within software development, I work with multiple teams to enhance their Agile process using JIRA by creating custom projects, schemes, screens, dashboards for better reporting, and more. Updated regulated documentation based on new or updated process for our software division to ensure we are up to FDA guidelines. Established new process for our testing teams where we were able to improve efficiency through heavily regulated testing phases. Partnered with other team leads and management team to focus on continuous improvement for our vascular division using agile methodologies. Ensured that as a team we are closing the gap between departments to maintain project timelines. WaFd Bank / Scrum Master & Agile Coach

January 2020 - April 2021, Bend, OR

My focus was to coach, mentor and lead our project managers, newly appointed product managers, and executive team into a new way of working. With the help of my team, we developed five product teams where their focus was continuous improvement and ensuring our customers' needs were met while also hitting industry standards. Secondly, I managed large scale digital transformation and IT projects from beginning to end. This included budget tracking, vendor management, team planning meetings, status reports, and more. Coached and trained our project managers, product managers, and executives in the Agile methodology.

Developed product team training materials and facilitated team training sessions that covered Agile methodologies, product management fundamentals, scrum ceremonies, and more.

Lead and developed exercises for teams to build working relationships. Reported back to leadership on progress of product teams during our bi-weekly executive meetings. Presented sprint metrics and team goals. Contributed to identifying how the organization needs to be reporting on agile product teams and projects.

Presented recommendations to leadership on roles and best ways to integrate product teams into the IT space.

Coordinated and facilitated quarterly planning sessions with teams and leadership. Stood up Azure Devops as a way for our product teams to track their work in a scrum/agile fashion

Stood up and developed SharePoint sites and product spaces for our product teams. Created and enhanced product and agile best practice documentation that related to the organizational needs.

Notes of

Recommendation

“I had the opportunity to work with Paula as I stepped into a new role as a product manager. She was knowledgeable and patient as I learned the basics of that role. Most appreciated was the fast response and direct communication. She quickly identified areas that could be improved on and took the time to build out the learning in steps that were manageable. She was always professional and adjusted her communication style to be effective with any group. Her disposition was warm and personable when appropriate. I would welcome the opportunity to work with Paula in the future.”

- Scott Napier / WaFd Digital Product Manager

“I started working with Paula more than a year ago when she joined our company. We had recently been acquired, so there was a lot of turmoil going on. I have to say that working with Paula was a great experience from the very start. She can give direction as well as listen, so it is easy to talk with her and explain your project needs. She is very knowledgeable with Agile, but her approach is so refreshing. Too many agile practitioners take a hard and fast approach to agile, as if "using the agile process" is the goal. I believe writing good software is the goal, and "using agile" is a means to that goal. Paula's approach helped us, and multiple other groups improve our processes and meet those goals. It was a tough position to be in since there were no processes in place at all for most of the groups, she really had her work cut out for her. I am confident that any organization that Paula is part of will be better off for it.”
