Sjoerd Auke Koppert-Buma was born in The Netherlands in 1950, an only child to parents who served in the Dutch resistance (his mother was one of the leaders) and a spy for British Intelligence, while his father did similar work under the cover of his industry. Growing up “normal” was not an option for Koppert who discovered that he was not cut out for the ‘normals’ of this world. He skipped a year at middle school and another year at high school, became bored quickly in college. This should have been expected as he had started his first company by the age of 16. He was awarded a Masters Degree (hons) in Electronics for inventing quadraphonic sound (which would later become surround sound). Later he obtained an MBA from Leiden University and a BsC from Utrecht University.

Career highlights:

Mid ‘60’s to mid ‘70’s – grew IMS B.V. into Europe’s leading P.A. and light hire corporation.

Worked with “the who’s who” of the music business, including the Beatles, the Who, Yes, Deep Purple, ABBA, Golden Earring, Focus, Shocking Blue and too many others to mention.

Late ‘70’s – responsible for launching the world’s first PC and a range of programmable hand-held scientific calculators for Texas Instruments, obtaining an 87% market from a new startup within 12 months.

‘80’s – board member of Lex Service PLC, responsible of divesting Lex from its 8 transport and distribution assets. Sold the last 2 transport companies to FedEx. Became ops board member of FedEx, responsible for the launch and development of FedEx in Europe and the Middle East.

Logistics strategy design and implementation for corporations such as: Volvo, Saab, Toyota, Hundai, Rolls Royce, Bentley, Land & Range Rover, Massey Ferguson, Sanyo, Sony, Sunbeam Rowenta, Mothercare and others.

Assistant to Sir John Egan in Taking Jaguar out of British Leyland and returning it to independence.

Established a consultancy firm at the request of the British prime minister (Margaret Thatcher) to provide consultancy services to former USSR corporations, teaching them to survive in a market economy.

Besides the consultancy firm, established an equestrian stabling manufacturing company, 2 saddlery shops, a regional newspaper, an organic produce farm, and a stud farm.

Moved to the USA in ’96 at the request of one of his mentors, Robert Muller, the Assistant Secretary General of the United Nations for 40 years.

Throughout his life, Koppert has had a serious interest in new technology -- especially in the fields of audio and audio-visual production. He is recognized as a leading acoustician and system designer, and holds industry endorsements with the leaders in the AV manufacturing industry. In addition, Koppert holds advisory board positions with A/V equipment manufacturers, a leading cyber security firm, as well as a corporation regarded as the ‘motor’ driving Virtual Reality.

In the late ‘90’s Sjoerd was one of the first people in the USA to catch Covid, before there was a vaccine. He subsequently retired and was asked by the Santa Barbara coroner to help them when they got snowed under. He did that for over 4 years, but had to give it up when his arthritis prevented him from picking up any more 300 lbs. plus bodies.

As from this date Sjoerd is looking for employment, as retirement is not for him. He believes he can make a valid contribution to any corporation with his extensive management and corporate experience.
