Professional Profile

12.5 years with IBM (DB2 UDB AIX) and 23.5 years with AT&T as lead senior database administrator supporting very large oracle databases in test and production environments. Expert in installing software, applying patches, configured database instances, designing, implementing, and managing data on midrange Linux and workstation servers. Project assignments involved government security clearances. Led experienced and junior DBAs to complete most of the projects. Azure cloud migration.

Summary of Experience and Accomplishments

ORACLE Experiences:

During my last 23.5 years with ATT, I worked as a senior DBA and later became team lead. Administrated Oracle 9i to 19c on Linux system. Setup Golden Gate, Data Guard, RAC ASM databases on Sun Solaris/HP servers later migrated to Linux5/6/7/8. Created and migrated databases as well as fine-tuned them to fit application requirements. Also upgrading and applying quarterly patches. My expertise are:

Expert in Oracle database backup using RMAN to local disk and remote tapes via Avamar agent. Recovery involved full/incremental/archive log/delete. Recovered data via RMAN restore either full DB or PIT.

Expert in setting up Golden Gate classic/integrated and multi-thread replications. Single and bi-directional. The same for Data Guard.

The largest oracle DB managed were 10-15TB running on Linux servers.

All government project (DOJ/USDA/GSA) setups, database encryption TDE were used. User and password protection parameters as well as AT&T internal security system csp_IDM.

Worked with project managers, data architectures, system administrators, and application developers to build database instances from beginning to operation.

Assigned and coaching experienced and junior DBAs to maintain and response to database alerts. On-call rotation.

Setup database monitoring system to alert DBAs.

Monitored all databases objects from expiring passwords, logs, memory, file system, oracle processes to tablespaces usages.

Worked with external auditors from the government agencies to fix software bugs and violations. Patched as needed.

Leadership tasks:

Provided database technical consultation and training within the team

Delegate DBAs to perform Oracle software installation, upgrade, patch on all Oracle versions, and on multiple operating platforms

Assisted DBAs to migration databases from 11g to 19c

IBM DB2 UDB certified

12.5 years with IBM and 7 years with ATT, I have designed and developed many projects dealing with DB2/MVS, DB2 UDB, and Oracle on AIX, Sun, and HP. With these lengthy experiences, my in-depth DBA skill archived with many awards, stock options, and bonus. Obtained the highest IBM DB2 certification and was selected by International Database User Group as a presenter of DB2 Connect and Thread Management on May'99 in Orlando, Florida. USA.

Currently support: 10 UDB V8.1 database and 5 UDB V9.1 databases running on AIX 5L/6L

Internationally assignments from 1996 to 1998, to work at IBM Global Services in Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, China, Hong Kong, and Tokyo.

The following experiences were performed at IBM and ATT in USA and Asia:

5/99 to Present: ATT Global Network Services in Tampa (USA)

Supporting both Oracle and DB2 UDB on AIX, HP, Sun Solaris, and Lunix for a while. Later they were outsourced to IBM/Tech M/Kyndryl

Completed migration of all Oracle 11c Linux 5 to Oracle 19c Linix7/8

Supporting all the daily on-going development and production problems on more than 300 UNIX boxes, 200 Java/pearl applications, and 150 projects.

Worked with IBM and Microsoft teams to migrate Oracle databases to Azure Cloud

Involved part time with MS SQL Server and MySQL 5.6

12/98 to 5/99: IBM Global Network Services in Tampa, USA

In US, provided overall DBA support for internal Global Business Systems to develop and test application that utilized databases on multiple AIX servers known as System Deployment Support team. My primary responsibilities are encompassing overall management of DB2/UDB/AIX/workstation engines.

6/98 to 12/98: IBM Asian Pacific in China

International Assignment as DB2 DBA of data warehousing for Bank of China in Hong Kong and Shanghi using 4 LPARS Regatta P690 machine with 8 GB RAM shared by 4 SMP machines per LPAR. He performed the following tasks:

2/97 to 5/98: IBM Asian Pacific in Singapore/Malaysia/Indonesia/Tokyo

Offered DB2 Connect training to Malaysian Airline IT department. Assisted them to fix their distributed data network problems involved upgraded and reconfigured all of their AIX machines.

Provided solution architect to POS Bank Data Warehouse project that involved database modeling, database design, and deployment of DB2 UDB EEE on AIX as the enterprise data warehouse repository.

Provided database solution architect to Indonesian Population project.

Helped to sized a Data Warehousing Project in Kular Lumpur. $3.5 millions project capturing existing Oracle, DB2, IMS, and the external spreadsheet files on a NT into the AS/400 using DB2/400 DBMS and ESSBASE multi-dimensional EIS tools.

7/88 to 4/96: IBM Global Network in Tampa

Developed the Operational Data Store project that involved building of AIX RISC/6000 platforms (primary/secondary boxes run under HACMP) to store an integrated data that allows 300 IBM Customer Care agents to access the ODS databases. Developed techniques and strategies to replicate the existing customers and products information on the mainframes into the integrated ODS data warehouse on the RISC/6000 boxes.

Configured DB2 Connect gateways to allow Lotus Notes clients accessing DB2 on MVS and AIX. Used CASE tool to capture the legacy data. Re-engineered them according to the requirements. Modeled the enterprise data warehouse, designed the physical databases, and implemented them on both RISC/6000 boxes.

Worked as a data modeler. Designed and implemented many Client/server projects. Supported dozen of databases within IBM Corporation in US including IBM Global Network System (IGNS) in Tampa, Florida. Developed numerous of database projects including MVS/IMS, MVS/DB2, AIX/DB2, and DB2/2.
