I am currently a 5th grade ELAR teacher at Richard E. Cavazos. I teach two classes to enhance their reading, writing, language, and history skills.

I taught in a school that 40% of the student population has one of their parents or love ones in the local prisons. In my class alone, 85% has only one parent living in the home. I had to create a safe, engaging, loving environment for my students to be successful. My lessons were data driven using Pearson Math and Reading Wonders.

I created an engaging, student led classroom. I held high expectation for every student in my classroom. I learned how to incorporate STEM into my daily lessons. My class consisted of 25 residential students with 14 being special education students.

I set high realistic educational goals for each student and tracked progress during their time in my classroom. I developed a strict, engaging classroom to meet the behavior and academic needs of the students. I taught English as a second language to pre-kindergarten through 5th grade. I designed creative lesson plans to further students understanding of grammar and vocabulary in all subjects. I adapted program teaching materials to fit the needs of my classes. I evaluated students’ performances through verbal and written testing through TELPAS. I assisted in training with new teachers and assisted them with the ESL in their classroom.
