Restaurant Recommendation Web Application May 2021
• Designed and built a full stack web service to enhance restaurant searching and recommendation expe- rience by utilizing personalization (personal information, visit history)
• Researched recommendation algorithms(User-based, Content-based, Demographic-based, Item-based, etc.) Designed a recommendation algorithm and used MapReduce to match similar restaurants based on categories
• Developed an interactive web frontend using AJAX technology(HTML/CSS/javascript/React) for users to search, update preference and view recommended restaurants
• Designed and developed the RESTful backend APIs using Java servlets, incorporated with Yelp API to fetch restaurants information
• Utilized MySQL(MAMP)/MongoDB to store restaurant information and user!s profile and history.
• Implemented sessions and login servlet to track user!s status. Utilized MD5 hashing to protect user!s privacy and security. (Session Storage)
