1.EMPLOYMENT RECORD
Company Name: Bakhresa Zimbabwe (Blue Ribbon Foods PvtLtd)
Type of Company: Wheat and Maize Milling Company
Position: a) Trainee Miller in wheat and maize mills.(2005-2008)
b) Shift Miller in wheat and maize mills.(2008-2018)
c) Head Miller in wheat mill (2018-to date)
b) SHIFT MILLER RESPONSIBILITIES
.Achieving maximum production of good quality flour at a satisfactory rate of extraction by adjusting and control of the milling plant.
Because of the high cost of wheat and the difference in price between bran and flour, this rate of extraction have a considerable effect on the production cost of flour. Also, from the overall manufacturing costs standpoint, the output per hour or 24 hours can affect the profitability of the whole operation.
.Quality control.
Ensures wheat meet specifications by collecting a sample of wheat and running an N.I.R for moisture, protein and ash. Make necessary adjustments to wheat blend as needed. Also performs quality assurance tests on flour to ensure product meet specifications by running an N.I.R for moisture, protein and ash.Liasing with the laboratory department for quality issues like gluten, color, hectoliter weight tests etc.
.Inspection of plant and machinery
Cleans and tempers wheat by inspecting operations of machinery and by setting the moisture to desired levels.
.Mill monitoring
.rolls-Routinely check the mill for proper operating by carrying out break release tests and adjusting the break rolls to ensure mill is balanced and also making other necessary adjustments when needed. Ensures feed to the rolls’ nip is evenly distributed, roll brushes and scrapper knives carefully set, sufficient grinding pressure is well set on both break and reduction rolls.
.Purifier-Ensures all feeds are spread across the full width and evenly distributed, ensure that the feed are of even granulation and free of dust, checking the air current setting to provide the correct lift to the stocks, sieve brushes kept running to prevent the sieve from blinding.
.Plansifters-Frequently examine the stock samples from the sifters to ensure there are no holed covers, bare dressing or blinding of sieves due to wipers/cleaners not working.
.Dust filters-Regular checking the manometer readings which indicates differential pressure between filter inlet and outlet. High pressure is caused by blocked sleeves while a low pressure reading indicate that air is escaping unfiltered. Avoiding dusty material blowing out through the outlets to the atmosphere since is caused by damaged filter sleeves.
.Mill balance
Attaining maximum level of efficiency and producing good quality and consistent products at the planned rate of production and flour extraction. In order to achieve optimum efficiency of all machines operation, as a miller I ensure all sections of the mill should receive the correct amount of stocks of the right quantity and particle size.
.Bulk storage of flour and bran products
Responsible for the transfer and placing of flour and bran to their respective bins/silos. Allocating each product to their allotted bins, assuring that the quality of the product in the bins is consistent and carrying out bin dipping exercise when applicable.
.Mill logs and production records.
Documenting results and generating reports which provide the overall picture of mill performance to the Mill Manager. Verifies mill extraction by recording scale readings into the mill work order.
.Providing support and assisting engineering department to develop condition monitoring routines
Working together technicians during plant downtime to minimize time lost and provide necessary manpower needed to assist.
.Supervising packing of flour.
Monitoring the packing process, regular checking pack size weight by random picking and weight it to ensure the deviation in weight is controlled. Also the appearance of the packed product be sound.
C) HEAD MILLER RESPONSIBILITIES
.Determining the grist-Finding out the optimal grist will be available and is economical and also meet or exceed the qualities required by customers.
.Solving technical problems-Solve technical problems in the mill that prolonged to be solved by shift millers.
.Review mill performance-Review extraction rate, break release results, analysis of laboratory flour results sheet and make sure that the mill’s performance is correct.
.Product quality- Liase with the Laboratory Manager to ensure quality conforms to standard.
.Preventive maintenance schedule-Planning for preventive maintenance in the future with the Maintenance Manager to reduce downtime.
.Maintain balance/Milling gain-Checking the milling gain caused by the addition of water. Also checking the mill’s energy consumption (calculating in kwh per ton milled grains).
.Planning cleaning schedule-Responsible for planning cleaning schedule for the machinery inside and outside. Also responsible for fumigation.
.Manage Shift Millers-Manage the shift millers on daily basis and provide them with daily production programs based on products needed by sales department. Account for the ageing period needed by the flour before it can be marketed, bins must work in FIFO fashion.
.Customer service-Provide technical service to customers if problem arise.
.Communicate with the Mill Manager-Inform the Mill Manager about the performance of the mill and problems that arise during production.
