Duties and responsibilities

• Perform required tests, checks and sampling for monitoring of treatment processes, such tests are, but not limited to: daily free and total Chlorine tests; daily Turbidity tests; daily pH tests; daily maintenance management reports and notes; and bi-weekly Bacteriological sampling at the water treatment plant (WTP).

•Daily monitoring of distribution pumps, turbidity monitors and chemicals including changing of chemical barrels, inventory and ordering of WTP chemicals.

•Prepare reports for works and operations meetings, Town council meetings and funding committees.

•As waterworks foreman I made shift schedules for employees in waterworks department including on call and vacation schedules.

•Receive and respond to water calls/complaints from the community including investigating issue, troubleshooting problem and scheduling work order, coordinating with waterworks or public works departments, contractors and government departments for excavation permits, contacting MTS and MB hydro for line locations, creating and distribute public notices for excavations and road closures.

•Daily monitoring and recording at 2 raw water pump houses, 2 sewage lift stations and 2 water distribution recirculation pump buildings.

• To carry a cell phone and respond within fifteen (15) minutes to an alarm from the SCADA system at the WTP Monitoring Station when on call, and be on a rotating emergency on-call shift from 5 p.m. to 8 a.m. during weekdays and 24 hours on weekends. Assist the on-call personnel in an emergency situation if required.

• Operate, maintain and troubleshoot issues at level 2 wastewater treatment plant (two Sequencing Batch Reactors) and respond to Sewage treatment plant alarms.

• Installation of water and sewer services for new developments and replacement of old or damaged services. Created on call schedule and was responsible for answering all calls from water and wastewater plants dialer system.

SKILLS AND CERTIFICATIONS

• Valid level 5 driver’s license

• First aid certified, transportation of dangerous goods certified, confined space certified, conflict management and Leadership management courses.

• Class two certified in water treatment, wastewater collection and wastewater collection. Class one certified in water distribution and qualified in level three water treatments (I have the required DRC hours but not enough CEU’s to be certified for level three at this time.)

•Confer with conductors or traffic control center personnel via radiophones to issue or receive information concerning stops, delays, or oncoming trains.

•Inspect locomotives to verify adequate fuel, sand, water, and other supplies before each run, and to check for mechanical problems.

•Interpret train orders, signals, and railroad rules and regulations that govern the operation of locomotives.

•Monitor gauges and meters that measure speed, amperage, battery charge, and air pressure in train and locomotive brake lines and in main reservoirs.

•Observe tracks to detect obstructions.

•Operate locomotives to transport freight or passengers between stations, and to assemble and disassemble trains within rail yards.

•Receive starting signals from conductors, then move controls such as throttles and air brakes to drive electric, diesel-electric, steam, or gas-turbine-electric locomotives.

•Call out train signals to assistants in order to verify meanings.

•Check to ensure that brake examination tests are conducted.

• Check to ensure that documentation, including procedure manuals and logbooks, is in the driver's cab and available for staff use.

•Drive diesel-electric rail-detector cars to transport rail-flaw-detecting machines over tracks.

•Inspect locomotives after runs to detect damaged or defective equipment.

•Monitor train loading procedures to ensure that freight and rolling stock are loaded or unloaded without damage.

•Prepare reports regarding any problems encountered, such as accidents, signaling problems, unscheduled stops, or delays.

•Respond to emergency conditions or breakdowns, following applicable safety procedures and rules.
