Senior Computer Generalist

I prepared the Columbus Metropolitan Library computer system for Barbara Bush's visit to CML for "Celebrate Technology" day ALONE in the midst of MANY overnight problems and "saved the day" while Williard Scott broadcasted live in the atrium on national TV. I received a commendation for saving CML a very large amount of money after documenting downtime of a gaming vendor that was unreliable and had a large amount of "downtime". It was my idea to do this and CML Administration was very appreciative of the returned money. Also, while interfacing our mainframe with our financial system (importing and exporting files) we began getting errors every night after no problems for a relatively long while. Our best and brightest blamed IFAS (Integrated Financial Accounting System) until the owner and CEO of the company brought their best and brightest on a flight from NYC. NO ONE could figure the problem out and it came down to the owner stating their company was going to give us a brand new system for free. Finally after observing all this I intervened and spoke up in front of everyone and asked my boss (Mike Martin) "How can everything be going well for 8 months and then all of the sudden we began getting these errors? What changed?"? I told everyone we changed operating systems on our mainframe. Our retention depth for retaining files was 30 days. I counted back and the day the problem began was the 1st day IFAS attempted to read what Tandem wrote. My boss (who I did not even think was listening) spoke up and said "He's right!" He told all if the IFAS crew, (You can go home now". No one understood my logic except Mike Martin and our Systems Analyst, Database Administrators, programmers and all others asked, "What did he just say?". Martin just told everyone to get back to work and he and I would fix the problem. The irony of the situation is that everyone was barking up the wrong tree! The problem was with our mainframe, Tandem, not IFAS! The owner of the company just looked at me and smiled then shook my hand. I had just saved him from honoring his promise to give us a brand new $500,000 system. At DeVry I got the highest logic score during testing in their history. There are other instances too.
