Carolina Freightways, Inc., Eden, North Carolina 2012 to Present Director of Safety and Recruiting
●Effectively developed, maintained and oversaw the general health and safety policies and procedures in an ever changing regulated industry.
●First point of contract for drivers when an accident occurs. This hands on approach provides the driver with the necessary calmness needed to handle any accident. With this involvement from the beginning, our insurance loss runs in our captive program are significantly lower than the industry average.
●Established the marketing, recruiting and hiring policies and procedures of local, regional and over the road drivers. Resulting in a complete redesign of our company website, more streamline applying & interviewing process which eliminated over 48 hours in our previous hiring procedures and a continual development of new hires two day classroom & road orientation. Average 3 new drivers per week.
●Created a company-wide culture of safety which enable us to grow in an industry with a crippling driver shortage. In 2012 we traveled over 7 million miles compared to our current years projected miles over 16 million. During this period we more than doubled our traveled miles our total insurance premium per tractor increased 4.5% from $9,532 per tractor in 2012 to $9,960 per tractor this current year.
●Primary point of contract for Department of Transportation (DOT), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) and our captive insurance company.
●In 2014 after researching, analyzing and negotiating the purchase of the companies’ electronic logging devices, developed an implementation plan to install them in our entire 125 tractor fleet and train all our drivers and operation staff on the new devices. Upon completion of this year long project, we are a full two years ahead of the industry mandate for the devices and well position to take advantage of any opportunities as a result of this mandate.
●Responsible for the research, purchase and implementation of Dash Cam, an on-board recording and dash camera, in our entire tractor fleet. During the past two years with Dash Cam, our accident claim process has improved in not only the time savings and but the claim/settlement amount. The amount of settlement savings we incurred in the first year paid for Dash Cam. The greater benefit of Dash Cam is the information we receive on a daily basis give us the ability to provide individual training to our 125 local, regional and over the road drivers.
