I am certified by the California Department of Public Health as Vector Control Inspector II, I am certified on safety of the use of Pesticides, Mosquito Control, Invertebrates and Vertebrates. As an Inspector II, I was responding to citizen’s complaints regarding Mosquitoes, Rats, Red Imported Fire Ants, and Flies. Going to inspect properties looking for mosquito sources in the back yard and adjacent homes, after finding the source I was treating it with safety larvicide; If I wasn’t able to get rid of the source, then I would give recommendations to property owners on how to control and keep mosquitoes away from the house. Our work load was around 75% of mosquito complains, and the other 25% between Red imported Fire Ants, Rats, and Flies.
I was in charge of flood control channels, dams, reservoirs, canyons and marshes, performed inspections, and if any of these sources were breeding mosquitoes larvae from 1st stage to 4th stage, then the mosquito source needed to be treated it with a larvicide called BTI ( Bacillus thuringiensis israelensis ) to kill the mosquito larvae, using a backpack sprayer that holds 30 lbs, when the mosquito larvae are on pupae stage, they don’t feed anymore, then we have to used some mineral oils, such as BVA II what make a thin film on top of water and don’t let the mosquitoes breathe.
