EDUCATION

UC Berkeley, Berkeley, CA August 2020-May 2024 (expected graduation) Majoring in Bioengineering B.S concentrating in biomedical devices and imaging GPA: 3.7 Relevant Classes: Explorations in Bioprinting; Biological Transport Phenomena; Biomedical Devices and BioMEMs EXPERIENCE

Aaron Streets’s Lab, Berkeley, CA June 2022-Present Research Assistant

● Conducted four DNA sequencing experiments under DiMeLo-seq protocol, which consists of methylating DNA near a target protein’s binding sites to be read by CpG methylation on unamplified long native DNA molecules, allowing mapping of protein-DNA interactions.

● Acquired skills and experience in pipetting, cell culture, and using Oxford’s nanopore sequencer as well as in data analysis using the DiMeLo package, Linux, GitHub, and AWS.

● Focused on improving sensitivity and reducing background methylation within DiMeLo sequencing by successfully crosslinking DiMeLo-seq complexes (including DNA, CTCF, antibody and protein A) to strengthen and maintain protein-antibody interactions pre-methylation.

● Dedicated about 40 hours per week over summer to analyzing data and conducting experiments.

● Presented summer research findings to graduate and PhD students in an hour-long presentation.

● Now responsible for designing and executing my own experiments in order to improve the accuracy and efficiency of DiMeLo-seq; runs about 2 experiments per week through the dedication of 20 hrs/week in the aim of increasing the methylation, decreasing background and reducing the amount of starting material necessary for a successful run. Skoy Enterprises, Encinitas, CA August 2016-Present Marketing Consultant

● Cultivated and managed marketing campaigns on the website and social media for a small business while working with a team to identify influencers for paid media opportunities.

● Conducted sales calls and attended trade shows, resulting in a 15% increase of consumer/sales base.

● Designed retail strategies for Google Adwords and some Amazon AMS. PROJECTS

Fentanyl Uptake via a Transdermal Patch at Three Different Locations of the Body

● Investigated the most effective placement of transdermal fentanyl patches on the human body while also ensuring that the concentration in the blood is within a safe range for the human body.

● Built a COMSOL model of each target area to compare the concentration of fentanyl remaining in the blood in the shoulder, forearm dorsal and buttock; wrote a mock research paper describing and analyzing our results and process. Increasing Biocompatibility of Synthetic Hydrogels to Promote Bone Regeneration and Combat Osteoporosis

● Lead a team of three students to design a mechanically-sound scaffold that mimics an extracellular matrix (ECM) to increase the biocompatibility of a synthetic hydrogel in order to allow cell attachment and cell migration and can diffuse nutrients to the bone cells in order to support new bone regeneration rates.

● Experimented with the stability and flexibility of different concentrations of PEG and sodium alginate as our choice of hydrogels in the effort of supporting osteoporosis patients. Improving Cell Viability and Accuracy of Current Liver-on-a-Chip Microfluidic Devices Via Consideration of Bile Canaliculi Formation

● Was project lead for a group of three students to modify an effective liver-lobule-on-a-chip device that lacked a bile excretion system and failed to take bile’s toxic effects on hepatocytes (liver cells) into consideration

● Redesigned the cell culture chamber of the previous device to mimic a hepatic cord and allow for organized formation of bile; created an additional bottom layer to provide a system for bile removal and excretion. SKILLS & INTERESTS
