RESUME’ for JOHN BRINAR

I am seeking work as a Construction Supervisor/Project Manager... I have personally supervised the construction of $249 million of houses, apartments, condominiums, strip centers, and tilt-up warehousing during the past 40 years of building experience. This is of projects in that I was directly responsible for the construction schedule, management, and payment of sub-contractors/suppliers and on some, I personally signed the loans to guarantee payment.

I am not limiting myself to this position, in fact, the other day I saw a sign in front of Lowe’s looking for help. This is a job I could easily do and I could enjoy as it requires helping people complete their home repair projects, and this is something I know about. I am not ready to retire and go stir-crazy sitting at home. I need to work, have a goal and remain competitive.

I am a senior but still don’t know what I want to be when I grow up., and I have been working in the construction industry for most of my career. I have experience speaking to public officials both in the zoning and building departments, as well as speaking before County Commissioners and City Council Members in efforts to obtain various project approvals. I have experience in getting the job done and I usually do. I do not consider roadblocks as unstoppable objects but as an opportunity to think of a solution and get the job done. I also have a current passport and travel is not a problem.

My knowledge is eclectic and extensive. I know all phases of building and I know both the IBC (I have a copy) and UBC codes.

From 1970 to 1978; In California, I began as an electrical engineer for Western Electric. I used to design traffic flow patterns through telephone offices so all of the equipment would wear out at the same time.

Then I began a building maintenance company that grew into a general contracting firm. My specialty was rehabbing burned dwelling units and building custom homes.

From 1978 to 1982; I moved to Reno, Nevada to joint venture with a development team to develop and build subdivisions. This failed to get off the ground due to the increasing interest rates at that time. I accepted a position with Veri-Built Inc., as a superintendent and quickly advanced to Project Manager. Veri-Built was the 211th largest developer of homes, apartments, and condominiums in the country. I learned a great deal about production and cost-effective building methods. While there I developed cost savings methods that saved 8% during the construction of units.

From 1982 to 1988; I became a real estate developer and built 3 subdivisions in the Tempe, Arizona area (Hacienda del Rio, Indian Bend Gardens, and Hacienda del Sol). I then became a single man and moved to the Caribbean.

From 1988 to 1989; I moved to a 52-foot sailboat in the USVI. I also built 18 condominium units on the island of St Croix, USVI. I also worked on 5 additional subdivisions as a trim carpenter. Hurricane Hugo made a direct hit on St Croix and of the 5 new developments that were built just prior to that storm, 4 became razed, and only the one wherein I built the complete structure, withstood the hurricane.

In my spare time, I also sailed the Caribbean and scuba-dived on any hint of a buried treasure.

From 1990 to 2003; I developed condominium warehouses in Las Vegas, Nevada. These were tilt-up concrete buildings that I condominiumized, so other business owners could own their shops, instead of renting. I became a concrete expert. I was purchasing agent, building supervisor, designer, and marketer of this inventive and successful project. I also invented new embeds that saved time and money during the layout of the walls that were necessary for this pour. I saved about 10% of construction costs.

From 2004 to 9/2005; I consulted with another firm that wanted to develop my style of warehouses and built 2 additional warehouses in the Salt Lake City area. They also utilized my new system and saved money on their construction costs.

From 10/2005 to the present; I have been working in the Katrina arena and completing government contracts and helping others with their rebuilding.

I have assisted, on a voluntary basis, people to file the proper paperwork to obtain their building permits. I have also donated several man days to the PDA to assist them in their efforts.

I have helped the PDA when electricians and plumbers are not available.

I also built the Pearlington Camp site ran the electrical, and plumbing, designed your removable kitchen and office buildings, and made drawings to standardize future buildings with material lists.

I am also a bit of a scrounge and can salvage materials that are overlooked by others (eg. Stainless steel sinks purchased for 3 sites by PDA for 50% of the cost of buying one sink at the normal outlets).

I know that I can handle any request that may be put to me and I can also give you reasonable projections of the costs and man-hours required as related to building projects. I have accomplished a lot in my career but it has been a team effort. All good endeavors are completed with good teamwork and that is a motto of mine.

I have experience building in a third-world environment and also have 5 years of Hurricane Katrina experience. So, I believe there is nothing I cannot accomplish.

I have had the opportunity to work with volunteers here in the Katrina-devastated area and work quite well with them. I have found them to be very industrious and seeking direction.

Thanking you in advance for your considering me to join your organization.
