Study Title: Novel antibodies in interstitial lung disease

We collected blood samples from ILD patients, some of these patients had rheumatologic diseases and some did not. We tested these blood samples for novel antibodies like Collagen IV, Collagen V and K-alpha tubulin as well as cytokine levels. We were interested in learning how these antibodies could impact the phenotype of the disease and how these patients were different from those lacking these antibodies.

Study Title. Cochrane review titled “tocilizumab for Rheumatoid Arthritis”.

My research project gave me an introduction to the exciting field of immunologic therapies. I reviewed the safety and efficacy data for Tocilizumab, an IL6 receptor antagonist. I completed this project under the mentorship of Dr. Jasvinder Singh, who is a renowned rheumatologist and researcher currently working at the University of Alabama. The project involved reviewing the abstracts and titles from literature search. In addition, I independently extracted the efficacy and safety data from the included studies. I along with a co-reviewer from MD Anderson Cancer Center analyzed the results from the included trials, drafted the review and helped with revision of the draft. While working on this research project I learned a wide variety of skills including using various research related software programs like Revman, Endnote and Grade pro.
