SUMMARY
As a skilled pipe-fitter I was responsible for reading the blueprints and translating to layout on floor, wall or ceiling. As well as the take-offs of the pipe fittings, cutting of the pipe to be welded, and the fabrication of hangers and floor or wall mounted stands. As a welder, I was responsible for the welding of said pipe and hangers. As a team player, I worked with a pipe-fitter to keep on schedule. All the while complying with safety guidelines set forth by OSHA/ MOSHA, as well as company guidelines.
As a residential carpenter I learned construction technique and lay out. SKILLS

EXPERIENCE
As a senior in high school and upon graduation, I attained experience in a 7/12 hour days shut down
(repair and replace) contract in a chemical processing plant. I ultimately worked with several different contractors.
At JW Walker, I gained experience with bending rebar for concrete pump bases and concrete pads. I learned to lay out for the pump bases and pads. My primary role was welding and fabricating. I also obtained experience in operating Bobcats, backhoes, forklifts and crains. I worked as a residential carpenter for approximately 5 years. I started as a laborer and was promoted to carpenter within a few months.
Working with two contractors at Vista Chemical, Banner Rigging and Bay Rigging, I was able to further my welding experience. I worked on the installation of processing towers up to 100-foot tall and processing tanks measuring 20-foot in diameter by 40-foot tall. Here I achieved basic rigging and how to use hand signals to safely conduct a symphony of maneuvers with a 100-ton crain. I had the experience to get into the Local 486 as a Journeyman without the benefit of attending the Apprenticeship progam. For the next 15+ years I expanded my experience in welding and pipe-fitting, while working on some amazing projects. My fundamental role was a pipe welder. As a team-player I kept up with the reading of the blueprints to be able to back up the pipe-fitter in their role to physically rig the pipe in to the ceiling, pipe shaft, or anywhere else they wanted it. There were occasions that I filled the role of pipe-fitter to maintain employment. That entailed reading blueprints, layout for the pipe runs and hangers, take-offs for the pipe fittings, cutting the pipe to exact measurements to insure a quality fit for the welder, thereby orchestrating the efficiency of the three to four man crew. While employed by Poole and Kent, as well as their sister companies, I worked on the Comfort Link project, which allowed me to work in several Baltimore buildings, including the US Custom Building and the National Institute of Heath in Baltimore. I also worked on the remodeling of Johns Hopkins, University of Maryland and Franklin Square Hospitals. I spent time at Sparrows Point Bethlehem Steel, which at one time, was rated one of the top ten most dangerous places to work in the US. Big projects, involving 40-inch pipe,100-ton crains and 100 degrees of hell in the summer and a minus 20 wind chill in the winter.
I was employed by JJ Kirlin and had the opportunity to work at the National Aquarium on the Australian Outback Exhibit and at the NSA facility. I had to obtain a full background check and received the necessary clearance to gain access to my specifc work area. I worked on some smaller projects such as Barnes and Noble in the Baltimore Inner Harbor for Denver Elek, Inc. I spent several months working out of the Harrisburg Local at the Hunterstown Powerhouse Project for Steel City. That entailed working on the steam duct. The steam duct started at 40 foot in diameter reducing to 20 foot within a 200 foot run. It then teed off and went another 150 foot in both directions, reducing to 12 foot at the ends.
My final employer with Local 486 was Arctic Refrigeration. I spent several years as a welder and tech assistant. We were responsible for new construction contracts in New Jersey, we fulfilled our service and maintenance contracts for Coke and Pepsi plants housed in Nashville TN, Roanoke VA, Silver Spring, MD, Piscataway NJ, and the Adirondack Bottling Company in New York. I assisted the HVAC technician in the rebuild of large ammonia compressors, valve rebuilds and replacement. Working through the Local 486 resulted in several layoffs throughout the years. During those times I sought and obtained employment using my experience as well as my SCUBA certification. I was a diver's tender on the Hanover Street Bridge project for Marksman Concrete Repair. I was hired by Sparrows Point Beth Steel Ship Yard to work on the Boston Tunnel project. I also participated in carpentry projects.
After leaving the Local 486 I took a job at a small shop owned by a friend. I welded and fabricated numerous projects. I took small scale jobs and measured, designed, estimated the material, fabricated, welded, painted, delivered and installed. I possessed a valid DOT card. That along with my clearance allowed me to make deliveries to military bases including Lake Hurst Naval Station, where I gained access to the tarmac where the Hindenburg exploded. I also delivered to Andrews Air Force Base, Bolling Air Force Base, Quantico and the NCIS facility at Quantico, Fort Meade, and NSA. I also made deliveries to the Douglas MacArthur House in Baltimore County. I made deliveries to the White House lawn for scheduled events.
EDUCATION AND TRAINING
1980 General Studies
Northeast High School—Pasadena, MD, United States
1980 Welding
North Arundel Vocational School—Glen Burnie, MD United States ACTIVITIES AND HONORS
I have been S.C.U.B.A. certified for 30 years and have worked side jobs utilizing that accreditation. While searching for my treasure I found myself scraping scummy boat bottoms, replacing zincs, removing and replacing bent props, retrieving lost keys and wallets, and even a lost outdrive. I also raised a boat or two, but alas still no treasure to be found.
