I am required to counsel a minimum of 40 patients, but currently at 65 patients that have to be counseled on substance abuse. I am required to make sure each patient has a treatment plan. When the patient is not going through treatment as required and are still providing positive drug screens for illicit substances, the patient is placed on a behavioral or treatment contract that can be for 30-90 days. I am required to see all patients monthly some could be 4 times a month to 1 time a month depending on their length of time in treatment. There are times that as a counselor you have to handle irritating situations with the patient or even be able to evaluate if they are in the position to even do treatment the day they come in due to possibly being intoxicated from illicit substances.

I am required to make sure they abide by all laws and become a successful member of society once completing. I have to make sure to have the probationer/parolee pay any debts owed to the courts along with probation supervision fees.
