Responsible to lead the whole Engineering group of 80+ onshore and offshore development managers, architects, developers, QA engineers, and 24x7 support engineers to deliver and support the mission-critical products involving real-time big data analytics, Machine Learning, BPMN, Workflow, dashboard technologies for both enterprise and AWS Clouds.

·Led the whole Engineering team, successfully on-budget and on-time to develop all the major innovative products, in big data analytics, machine learning, BPMN, modeling tools and platforms, using the latest technologies like Spark, Hive and Hadoop. Delivered all last-12-year releases, i.e. VIA 6.x, VOI 4.x-6.x, M3O 1.x-3.x, BW 4.x, Dashboard Builder 1.x-3.x, Big Data Analytics Apps 1.x.

·Initiated and built up SRS2’s On-Demand Integration Consulting Practice; Responsible for practice’ strategic directions and service model development, account management, proposal (SOW) development, requirements gathering, solution architecture, construction and justification, and contract negotiation with Practice P&L.

·On-time/on-budget delivered multiple challenging projects concurrently and constantly under high pressure and tight timelines. Each project was about 10+ China offshore engineers with 3-6-month durations. Customers include San Francisco City IT Office, Webex, Open Wave, Seven Networks, and Data-sweep.

2002 - 2003

Borland Software Corp, Singapore – VP of Engineering

Responsible for managing the offshore R&D Center (60+ members) owning Borland’s CORBA, J2EE and SOA application server platforms’ development and maintenance with an annual budget of $7M.

·Turned around the troubled poor-performing offshore R&D center by changing the organization’s culture with ownership and accountability, and getting the staff focused and delivered all releases on time.

·Brought a new vision to the Center; drove strategies, product roadmap, prototyping, and architecture improvement to VisiBroker; accomplished major features like high-availability, message-queue-based notification service, and Web Services.

·Totally re-built development, QA and sustaining operational processes for the R&D Center, including its 24x7 Global Support Group, with substantial improvement in response time and work quality. Reduced customer complaints (Telcordia, AT&T, MCI etc.) on responsiveness by 80%. Customers’ Severity-1 trouble-ticket resolution time reduced from 10 days to 4 days in average.

2001 - 2002

Commerce One Corp, Cupertino, CA – Engineering Director

Responsible for managing an 8-member architect department to conceptualize and prototype advanced solutions, components and standards for emerging Web Services, B2C, B2Bi, BPM and EAI technologies.

·Consulted business partners and clients for their products in SCM, CRM (saleforce.com-alike), ERP, EAI, Web Portal, J2EE, and Web Services, using Commerce One’s new SOW Integration platform – Enterprise Service Bus (i.e. Conductor).

·Led efforts in defining cross-organization strategy, requirements, prototyping, and architectures to support Web Services, and Procurement applications including Catalog Search Engine with Taxonomy Indexing.

Netfish Technology/IONA, Santa Clara –Engineering Director

Responsible for managing the 90+ people platform group to develop event-driven ESB Platform supporting Web Services, B2B Processes (like RosettaNet, ebXML) and Workflow, using J2EE-based Web technologies.

·Rose to occasion to lead the whole engineering group, when it needed a strong leadership to drive product planning, collaborate with sales, marketing and service groups, as well as to execute defined plans. Stabilized and turned around the group by paying more attention to near-term results, better cross-team coordination and personal motivation. As a result, better productivity was achieved and the attrition rate was reduced from 15% a quarter to less than 3%.

·Recorded a track of on-time mission-critical product deliveries to international customers and partners such as Japan NTT and its associated Japan partners, J.D. Edwards, Flextronics, and Nordstrom. Successfully completed two major platform releases and quarterly patch release with visible reliability, performance and stability improvement.
