I am seeking to utilise my experiences to develop a career in civil engineering and construction management. I have, through a series of job roles as a freelance site engineer accumulated an exceptional and diverse bank of skills on a variety of construction sites short and long term projects. With a proven track record I have developed excellent organisation and planning at the most challenging building sites, delivering the highest standards of accuracy and competence particularly at the groundwork stage. I lead by example, am capable of making key decisions and am able to adapt to ever changing environments with initiative and decisiveness.

Working for a large subcontractor firm building a major Amazon warehouse on M62/M1 Junction. Dealing with all aspects of engineering tasks within a team of three engineers on a typical large commercial steal structure new build, starting from piling, large foundation bases, bolts, precast walls, retaining walls, drainage and externals. Working to a very tight schedule under a lot of pressure long hours and weekends.

Responsibilities
Working for a subcontractor on a new build school steel structure project taking care of all groundworks from earthworks, attenuation tanks, piling to concrete bases, bolts, drainage, services and slab. Program was fast-paced so keeping up with 4 teams of groundworkers, a team of joiners and a crew of steel fixers was a challenge and a good experience especially when accomplishing a high degree of accuracy.

Working for the main contractor on a new school steel structure project setting out all the groundworks for a large subcontractor looking after four teams. Bolts, drainage and earthworks were the main parts of the job in addition to other elements such as access road and services. Supervision of health and safety was also an important area of responsibility.

Responsbilities
Working for the main contractor on a £50 million infrastructure project for a new 10,000 home town on the outskirts of Cambridge. Duties consist of setting out, surveying as built, monitoring health and safety, ordering, recording and accounting for materials. Supervising the work of two teams of a large subcontractor, C.P. Dynes, and liaising between them and the main contractor. Culvert laying, headwall building and deep drainage laying six metres into the ground pipe sizes ranging between 150mm to 1400mm. Accuracy of position and invert levels were crucial to the job. Risks of falling from height, collapsing trenches, and moving heavy plants brought extra responsibilities for ensuring method statements are strictly followed.

Working on a high profile Galliford-Try project for a major subcontractor managing two teams of groundworkers on a 900 million infrastructure/ 3650-home development scheme. Main responsibilities included setting out deep drainage sewers, headwalls and section 278 roadworks. High standards of accuracy, strict adherence to health and safety procedures, attention to detail in specifications and keeping QA files up to date were all crucial parts of the job.

Two small new build steel structure contracts; one building a Café Nero in large high profile retail park in Birstall. The other is the new build of B&M in a retail park in Beverley. Work involved including the establishment of a new grid based on existing buildings then followed by setting out groundworks for bolts and drainage then checking lines and levels of erected steel.

Working on a short term contract for the main contractor renovating the historic A-listed Piece Hall and central library. My Duties comprised of working with joiners and groundworkers to set out the landscape outside the library and deliver a high-standard finish for a grand opening in August 2017.

Working on the A14 a government multi-billion project to improve and widen the existing A-road between Cambridge and Huntington. I worked on the initial phase for a subcontractor on behalf of Cambridge Water diverting existing utilities and laying new water pipes. Duties included setting out positions and levels of new water main and surveying as-built positions for pipes, valves, air valves and hydrants using a GPS equipment.

Working for a large steel manufacturer/erector that is subcontracted by the construction giant Laing O’Rourke to erect steel for an 11-storey commercial block in the heart of Manchester.
Setting out Fin-Plates and Stubs that get welded onto Embed-Plates which are fixed in the concrete towers (core buildings).
Surveying Embed-Plates and producing drawings, using Autocad, to illustrate the precise position of where Fin-Plates need to be welded so that beams can be attached to them.
Setting out bolts for columns.
QA of lines and levels for all columns and beams on each floor.

Arriving on day one of fence erection and staying on the job until snagging and practical completion.
Supervising the demolition of the old police station then using the crushed brick and concrete for a cut and fill exercise to the structural engineer's required levels.
Building Aldi and Jack Foulton small retail park in a primary location south of Leeds.
Getting involved in all aspects of construction from setting out piles, bolts and slabs to organising concrete, stone, manhole rings, bolt sizes, and radius kerbs and even to the fine details of landscaping.

Working for a subcontractor to Carillion building a new entrance to Leeds Train Station. Huge civil project £17.3m steel structure prestigious frame built over River Aire canal sitting on two RC columns at the canal riverbed.
Very challenging in many aspects especially to make precise connection between a ground level bridge, two banks and the train station at the top of the arches.
Accuracy with position and levels and to make all pre-fabricated steel frames fit perfectly resembling an upward tunnel was one of my greatest achievements.

Working on a new build of 18 residential units. Setting out of building, adoptable roads, drainage, attenuation tank and external works. The buildings were pre-fabricated units that sat on steel channels and plates fixed onto piles. Managing 4 teams consisting of pilers, drainage workers, external workers and 2 metal fabricators. Monitoring all aspects of health and safety.
