Physician Assistant. ECI is a combination of 20 MD’s and DO’s, and 15 PA’s. We use a team-based approach to medical care with physicians, PA’s and nursing staff. My time was split between St. Francis Hospital Emergency Room, in which we are contracted out to cover the ER, and our outpatient urgent care clinic, Med Center.
St. Francis Hospital ER – Worked in several areas:
1) Triage – Initially interview patient and order appropriate lab, diagnostic tests, and
medication until seen by the doctor.
2) Urgent Care – Solely see minor injuries, illnesses, suturing, and minor procedures
without a doctor present in this area of the ER.
3) Main ER – Do all suturing, minor procedures, and lumbar punctures, as well as
do the initial history, assessment, and proper ordering of lab and testing of most
patients until seen by the doctor.
Med Center - Provide care for walk-in acute/urgent care clinic owned by ECI. With
a variety of cases; Including: acute illnesses, injuries, work comp/occupational
medicine, school/pre-employment/ and DOT physicals, and referrals.
Minor Med Topeka, KS July 2000 – December 2000
Physician Assistant. Working on PRN basis for providing sole coverage for acute/urgent care,
walk-in clinic. Also see overflow family practice patients from 2 sponsoring MD’s. See variety of cases – acute illnesses, school/occupational physicals, suturing, casting, GYN, I&D cysts, nail excisions, sports medicine, work comp cases, etc.
