Profile: A Registered Professional Nurse with 39 years of professional service and experience. I have a well-rounded work history, including medical surgical, psychiatric, maternal child, and lastly, one of the Clinical Nurse Educators of the Maternal Child Department at Touro Infirmary. Education and Training: Bachelor of Science: Nursing LSUMC University of New Orleans attended from 1977-1979 for pre-nursing courses. Attended LSUMC School of Nursing in 1979-1983. Obtained a BSN in May 1983. none: Initiated my MSN in Education University of Phoenix /online from 2007-2008. Enrolled in ASU (American Sentinel University/Post University) online in January 2016. Completed my MSN in Nurse Education degree from this university in December 2021.
Activities and Honors: Employee of the month for August 2016- Touro Infirmary, New Orleans, Louisiana
Experience: 1. Veterans Administration Medical Center Biloxi, Mississippi- May 1983-November 1986. Staff nurse on a large Medical Surgical unit with primary focus on respiratory diseases and other cardiac disorders. As a new nurse, this experience helped to enhance and shape my stable background in medical surgical nursing. March 1987 to April 1990 was overseas with my -husband in Philippines. I did not work during this time. Had a baby in January of 1987. 2. North Oaks Medical Center Hammond, Louisiana, November 1990-December 1997. Staff nurse on a 25-bed post part unit. Patients also included GYN surgery as well as fetal demise patients and antepartum patients. I was re-assigned one evening to the Geriatric Psychiatric unit and truly enjoyed it. I decided to transfer and worked on the Senior Care unit for approximately 4 years. Staff nurse on the small 14 bed unit, including group therapy with the psychiatrist and family involvement and support. Medication administration and compliance and education of staff, patients, and family. 3.Tulane Medical Center-New Orleans, Louisiana-January 1998-March 2000-Staff Nurse on a large Postpartum unit which included everything; telemetry, geriatrics, fetal demise. Was occasional charge nurse. 4. Touro Infirmary – New Orleans, Louisiana- May 2001- June 2021 - Originally was staff/charge nurse on 25 bed post-partum unit. Patient and family teaching were crucial. Patients included high risk antenatal, fetal demise mothers, uneventful vaginal deliveries and c/sections, breast flap and breast augmentation patients, hysterectomy patients and so many others. I became one of the Family Birthing Center’s, at Touro Infirmary’s’ Clinical Nurse Educator in June 2016. 5. Delta Community College- Covington, Louisiana. May 2021-August 2021- Clinical Educator of the LPN Program. 6.Lakeview Regional Medical Center-Covington, Louisiana, as of July 2021, I am presently employed as a Staff RN on a 24-bed geriatric psych unit at Lakeview Behavioral Health Unit in Covington, Louisiana. My role includes: education of patient and family members, administering medications as well as ongoing assessment of patients for medication adjustments, etc. and the institution of daily nursing group activities for this population.
Interests: I have a few new interests that I am interested in accomplishing: Obtaining my MSN in Nursing Education, which I am enrolled and have completed in December,2021. I am interested in working with Dialysis patients and being trained in that field of nursing, interested in working with diabetic patients and rehabilitation patients, including education of patients and family members on medication and the disease itself. I am also interested in obtaining education and training as a case management nurse as I will be utilizing these skills as an online and/or travel nurse. Lastly, I’m interested in teaching online/virtual courses or working in an online environment as well as virtually educating patients after discharge. Lastly, I am interested in doing a Travel Nurse assignment in education, postpartum, or case management. I believe that as a nurse educator, learning will never cease.
