PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
AMAZON SPECIAL PROJECTS GROUP, (formerly their incubator labs), Milpitas, CA. May 2022 - Current
Obtained a role to build out a small prototype lab for a specific team working one specific product. Determined capabilities and processes relevant to the project needs for both current and future taskings. Managed all aspects of pre planning, execution and contingencies to accomplish all deliverables accurately, on time and within budget. Achievements
On day one of my employment, I provided a solution to the team’s primary blocker that they had been struggling with for the previous several weeks. The solution, once enacted, took less then two weeks to accomplish. Please excuse my being vague, I am under an NDA.
SI-BONE MEDICAL DEVICES PROTOTYPE LAB, Santa Clara, CA. November 2021 -May 2022
Brought on board to help design, build and manage SI_BONE’s first prototype lab. This lab will be providing medical device prototyping services. Work with staff engineers and senior leadership to machine and produce tools for orthographic implants. Achievements
■ Acquired organized machine equipment and installation.
■ Selected and built a professional team of model makers and CNC programmers.
■ Developed protocols and policies pertaining to the daily work performed in the shop.
■ Mentoring and coaching junior intermediate and other senior engineers in part and fixture development for design and testing. Bryan Golden, Industrial Design Modelmaker / Sr. Prototype Hardware Engineer 2
DIRECTOR MICROSOFT HOLOLENS MODELSHOP, Mountain View, CA. September 2019 to June, 2021
Director in managing the model and prototype work performed by a selected professional team providing industrial prototyping services. Contributing to the development of mechanical parts, fixtures, and test apparatus in conjunction with the mechanical, electronic, system validation, and reliability engineering teams. Achievements:
■ Planned and organized the first Silicon Valley Campus Model shop for Microsoft Corporation for the Hololens Business Group.
■ Selected and built a professional team of model makers and CNC programmers.
■ Developed protocols and policies pertaining to the daily work performed in the shop.
■ Improved capabilities of the shop by adding the use of highly specialized SLS 3D printing technology to provide and deliver more robust and real-life testing of prototype components of the mechanical engineering designs.
■ Improved CNC machining turnaround times by introducing techniques that saved the need for complex fixture setup.
■ Mentoring and coaching junior engineers in part and fixture development for design and testing. SENIOR PROTOTYPE ENGINEER, MICROSOFT HOLOLENS MODELSHOP, Mountain View, CA. June 2015- September 2019
Provided services and technical expertise for the prototyping of mechanical engineering components for the mechanical engineering team. Invented and utilized unique methods of 3D machining to reduce turnaround time. Utilized never-before- seen techniques in machining comfort foam. Drove 3D printing services on schedule with 12-hour delivery capabilities. Achievements:
■ Worked with mechanical engineering teams to build working prototypes and demos.
■ Implemented best practices for CNC machining and rapid prototyping technologies.
■ Employed the practice of highly accurate 3D printed fixtures for advanced 5 Axis CNC machining.
■ Established essential services for engineering prototyping: RP rapid prototyping services in 3-D printing technologies (Polly Jest 3-D printing, SLS 3-D printing, FDM 3-D printing), CNC machining services, OMAX Mini-Waterjet, KERN metal cutting laser and Universal nonmetal cutting laser.
GOLDEN MODEL WORKS, Ventura, CA, Owner.
January 2003 to June 2015
Owner of Golden Model Works. Engaged in work on a per project basis, offering services to a wide-range clientele. Achievements:
■ SPEAKER HOUSING PRE-TOOLING VALIDATION Audio components SONOS CNC Machined a deep draw ABS housing for a new speaker design. Programmed and machined multiple units of an engineering validation prototype for a one-piece plastic housing. Machined the units as they would be injection molded complete with 6-7 inch interior vertical ribbing and screw boss locations for component mounting inserts all out of a single billet of ABS plastic block.
■ MICROPHONE SWIVEL CLAMP Audio components BLUMIC Re-engineered and Prototyped adjustable swivel clamp. Re-engineered a microphone shock mount swivel clamp to improve positioning and holding ability. Transformed a compression style clamp assembly to a spline interfaced holding clamp all while maintaining the same component dimensions.
■ WEARABLE ELECTRONICS Professional Athletics Industry Isaac Daniels Group Prototype Mold for Rubber housing.
Machined an acrylic mold to shoot 5 urethane rubber housings. Responsible for developing and machining the electronics housing that is inserted into the rubber device body. Developed custom color strapping with a textile vendor to provide for the attachment strap for unit. Bryan Golden, Industrial Design Modelmaker / Sr. Prototype Hardware Engineer 3
PROGRAM SPECIALIST / MOLD SHOP MANAGER, A.L. JOHNSON COMPANY, Camarillo, CA. June 2008 to November 2010
Designed and programmed master mold patterns. Managed tooling shop and molding activities. Achievements:
■ Provided master pattern and tooling as it relates to Rubber–Plaster-Molding (RPM casting Process) for aluminum castings. Designed the tooling in Solidworks and programmed toolpath with SurfCam. Machined the tooling on a CNC mill. A rubber mold would then be made of the tooling creating plaster molds enabling the aluminum to be cast.
■ Provided secondary machining and “First Article” development and support. This required developing the toolpath programming and fixture development to move the casting(s) into production.
■ Use outstanding problem-solving skills to accomplish technically complicated projects and meet high tolerance demands regarding assembly and manufacturing.
