Job Summary:

Under general supervision I am responsible for independently collecting samples from all age groups, accessioning, processing, performing, and reporting moderately complex and waived testing according to physician orders and in accordance with laboratory policies and procedures, FDA, TJS, CLIA, OSHA regulations to facilitate optimum quality patient care. I am responsible for performing and recording environmental and instrument QC, maintaining laboratory equipment, and ensuring high quality interactions with patients.

Responsibilities

1. Participates working at any clinical laboratory site based on staffing needs for patient care at the discretion of the supervisor.

2. Performed laboratory testing competently, such as dipstick and microscopic urinalysis, wet preps, pregnancy test, Grp A beta streptococcal screening, point-of-care glucose, rapid hemoglobin and/or other tests to provide diagnostic information to ordering provider.

3. Performs quality control procedures as required for all testing performed.

4. Operates moderately complex and waived testing instrumentation

5. Maintained laboratory instrumentation as required by procedure or manufacturers’ recommended guidelines.

6. Identifies problems and perform the necessary adjustments and or conducts maintenance.

7. Maintains records and perform instrumentation maintenance.

8. Performs venipuncture for specimen collection on all age groups, using at least 2 patient identifiers and ensuring specimens are labeled in front of the patient correctly with date and initials as required .Follow all collection policies and procedures without any deviation.

9. Performs accessioning into the laboratory Epic information system utilizing appropriate barcoded labels.

10. Processes and preserves specimens following instructions in procedures or laboratory information system.

11. Tracks specimens in laboratory Epic information system to be sent to core laboratory for testing.

12. Reports test results in laboratory information Epic system and maintains required documentation of results.

13. Always keeping turnaround time expectations to meet department goals and demonstrate clerical accuracy when reporting data.

14. Review and resolves incomplete and/or pending logs before end of my shift.

15. Order and maintain laboratory supplies using PeopleSoft

16. Always following safety policies, life safety policies, and infection control procedures for self, patients, and others at all times.

17. Participates in training and teaching of new staff, students, in the laboratory as needed.

18. Complete all required competency, continuing education, and proficiency testing within the required timelines.

19. Promotes positive interpersonal relationships with fellow employees, physicians, patients and visitors.

20. Treats each individual with courtesy, dignity, empathy, and respect.
