I worked in the mail Processing and Data Distribution Department. Sorting and dispatching various mails for respective branches located through the entire State of California. The duties were changing out full mail sacks and replacing with clean empty sacks. Repeated periodically through-out the day. organizing the full sacks to ensure easy dispatches at appropriate times

This job was a keyboard type entry of each piece of mail traveling by conveyor. The task was to key in a zip code at a speed of 55 letters per minute. At the end of the shift the task was similar in that all full bins and letter trays had to be removed and prepared for dispatch through-out the USA.

As technology evolved the USPS incorporated higher tech equipment and machinery. Such optical character readers and barcode sorters. As an operator there are essential functions that require hands on type of clearing and resetting to ensure proper sortation into correct and proper bin location. So it has been my pleasure to learn about various types of sensors and conveyor systems directly related to our delivery bar code systems (DBCS) and optical character readers (OCR)

VOLUNTEER EXPERIENCE OR LEADERSHIP

I enjoy working and interacting with people in an attempt to help out where ever I can. I assisted a church group on mission to Guatemala in 2015. The village we were staying had hundreds of families in desperate need of medical attention and hygienic assistance. We also would go directly to some places where families would call home. We provided food and shoes for the children.

As for mail processing evolution we incorporated a remote barcoding system for the united states and other countries back in 1995. It was state of the art at that time. And the information collected via (OCR) incorporated a data base for all addresses in the united states. Even proposed addresses for the properties that were not even built at that time. The computers were made by Northrop, Lockheed Martin and Pitney Bowes. The optical character readers would take pictures of every address that was passing by the reader, record it and assign it a permanent bar code for its location with in the USA and Input sub systems(ISS) and output sub systems (OSS) Would save it in the (DSU) Data storage unit until the information was resolved saved and ready to spray the identifying barcode to the piece of mail ready to receive it. So This process was a 2 pass system.
