OBJECTIVE
My objective is to use my 14 years of experience as a psychiatric np, and 20 years of experience as an RN in women’s health and critical care to obtain a psychiatric nurse practitioner position.
EXPERTISE AND ACHIEVEMENTS
I was certified as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner by the ANCC in 2006. I recertified in June, 2021. During that time period, I have worked as a psychiatric np in the outpatient setting, both in person and by telehealth. I’ve worked as a psychiatric consultation liaison nurse, inpatient staff psych NP for mood, anxiety, and units for the seriously mentally ill, inpatient and outpatient detox and rehab, geriatric units, community mental health settings, state hospital forensics, and private practice settings.
I graduated as an RN in 1984, and I worked in medical and surgical intensive care, open heart recovery, and then I transitioned to high-risk labor and delivery, mother-baby, and education. I was inducted as a charter member into the Ohio Wesleyan/Riverside School of Nursing Honor Society two years after graduating with my BSN, and I was inducted into the International Honor Society of Nursing, Sigma Theta Tau, when I graduated with my MSN from the Medical University of South Carolina in 2000. I completed coursework and passed the national certification exam as a legal nurse consultant in 2004. My strengths include both psychiatric and physical assessment/diagnostic skills, medication management,excellent written assessment and follow-up notes, and flexibility/creativity to maximize best patient care. I am a strong team player, and I focus on building and maintaining strong relationships with both patients, and my colleagues. I believe in open communication, and repair of ruptures in collegial relationships. I am also open to constructive criticism, and I feel the work of a united team brings about the best patient outcomes. I have refined skills in establishing a therapeutic relationship with my patients. I believe wholeheartedly in providing unconditional positive regard for those individuals for whom I provide psychiatric care. Furthermore, I review legal cases involving medical and nursing care, as well as personal injuries. I excel in collaborating with other medical and legal professionals, due to my strong communication 1
skills, and ability to look at situations from multiple angles. PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
Pacific Coast Psychiatric Associates Marina Del Rey, CA ( 05/20-08/20 ) I worked completely remotely from home during this position. I saw 6-7 new psychiatric evaluations per day. I saw patients experiencing all psychiatric disorders, excluding psychotic disorders. I provided medication management and/or therapy for patients in 30 minute increments. I had a caseload of 110 patients in 3 months. I chose to leave this position for unexpected personal loss during Covid-19, and a resolved personal health issue. WellPsyche Medical Group, Hermosa Beach, CA (05/19-5/20) I worked in a private practice and telepsychiatry setting, seeing patients from the age of 6 through late adulthood. I performed initial psychiatric evaluations on all new patients, and provided follow up medication management, as well as therapy, for patients who desired individual therapy. (01/19-05/19)Contract inpatient staff PMHNP. I worked as one of the primary providers for an inpatient children’s unit, seeing children ages 6-11, and I also provided backup coverage for the adult inpatient unit. I performed initial psychiatric evaluations, medication management, and ordering of activities and treatments on all newly admitted patients on the children’s unit, as well as providing ongoing assessment, therapy in the milieu, and consultation and treatment of rising events that occurred to the patients during my shift. I also saw adult patients for initial psychiatric evaluations, medication management, and treatment for emergent events on the adult unit. Gabriela S. I worked part time in my own small private practice setting seeing patients with mood and anxiety disorders. I provided both medication management and therapy. I cared for patients with treatment resistant depression, severe panic disorder with agoraphobia, and patients with borderline personality disorder. I used CBT and DBT as well as interpersonal therapy in my practice. I became a Medicare provider in California during this time period. Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center, San Luis Obispo, CA (01/17-08/17) Perinatal Educator. I served as the educator for the Labor and Delivery and Mother/Baby Units. I also participated in general nursing education as needed. I educated a staff of 80 nurses in required training in Obstetrics, including new RN orientation to Women’s Health, annual exercises for complications in obstetrics, 2
and education for new policies and procedures. I consulted on, and reviewed complex cases to determine if appropriate standards of care were being followed. I helped to establish new programs such as screening and treatment for perinatal mood and anxiety disorders. I trained nurses in guidelines for high risk obstetrical care through inservice education, annual drills for events such as maternal hemorrhage, maternal hypertensive crises, shoulder dystocia, and sepsis in the maternal patient. I began orientation for new labor and delivery nurses with classes in basic anatomy and pathophysiology contributing to complex maternal presentations.
Advanced Practice, Locum Tenens(07/14-12/16). All positions, worked under Advance Practice Locum tenens, were contract positions. Crisis Stabilization Unit, Tricity Medical Center, Oceanside, CA. I worked as the provider-in-charge of a 12 bed psychiatric crisis stabilization unit for patients medically cleared from the emergency department. Duties included psychiatric evaluation, determination of services needed, urgent medication management, and crisis intervention planning and disposition. High patient population with substance issues, severe mental illness, mood and anxiety disorders, homelessness (08/16-12/16). Journey to Kindness Health Management Services, I worked remotely from San Luis Obispo through telepsychiatry running a private psychiatric practice. I did 2-4 new psychiatric evaluations, and managed medications and provided therapy from 10-14 patients per day (0/16-08/16). Carson Center, Westfield, Massachusetts, Community Mental Health Center. This position involved psychiatric evaluation and medication management for outpatient adolescents and adults. The majority of patients that were seen were seriously mentally ill, many with co-occurring substance use issues. There was frequent crisis management of decompensated patients, and transfer of care to the ER, or direct admission to psychiatric facilities (08/15-12/15). 02/14-07/15 Time off for travel, family and low back surgery. Staff Care, (09/13-2/14), Both Positions were contract positions for Staff Care. Kedren Community Health Center, I worked in outpatient services doing initial psychiatric assessments and medication management of 8-14 patients per day. All activities were done in this community-based mental health center.
(08/13-02/14). West Central Georgia Regional Hospital, Columbus GA. I worked in a State Psychiatric Hospital. I worked on a forensic unit, with a 60 bed capacity, managing the women’s side averaging 28-30 patients per day. I managed medications for patients on a daily basis,did psychotherapy with patients, attended daily team meetings, and attended routine meetings for forensic diagnostic step management and disposition. There were many patients 3
that had serious medical illnesses that I co-managed with the Hospital Internist. Patricia G. Korn, APRN, PMHNP-BC, LLC, Private Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner, Office Setting, (08/07-07/13) I practiced in my own private office setting, providing initial psychiatric evaluations, medication management and psychotherapy for patients experiencing difficulties with mood, anxiety, and substance disorders, serious mental illness, and bipolar disorder. I treated patients ages 12 through geriatrics.
Medical University of South Carolina 1. Charleston, South Carolina. Psychiatric Consult Liaison Nurse (11/06-5/07). In this position as an APRN, I provided psychiatric consultation for patients in the SICU, Neurology, Oncology, Orthopedic, and Long-Term Care units. I provided consultation and direct psychiatric care to patients and families having psychiatric and emotional problems related to illness, hospitalization, and decision-making issues. I also participated in crisis intervention/ debriefing for patients, family and staff. Psychiatric consultation was also provided for staff with individual and/or work-related difficulties.
2. Staff Nurse Practitioner, Institute of Psychiatry, (10/04-11/06). I began working ponall units within the Institute of Psychiatry, and then went on to work full time on the Drug/Alcohol/Mood Disorders Unit. The majority of my shifts I functioned as charge nurse for the unit. I also worked prn (10/04-11/07) for the ECT unit, assisting with the procedure as well as recovering patients post-procedure.
East Cooper Regional Medical Center, Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina, Interim Director and Staff Nurse, (01/02-01/04). I was a staff nurse on the Women’s Services Unit, working labor and delivery, antepartum/postpartum, OR/recovery, gynecology and nursery from 05/02-05/03. From 05/03-01/04 I worked as the interim director of the women’s unit.
Northwestern Memorial Hospital, Chicago, Illinois, Staff RN in Labor and Delivery, (01/01-12/01). I worked as a staff RN in a level III labor and delivery unit. I managed women, up to 90% high risk in labor and delivery/recovery, circulated and scrubbed in the OR, and took care of high risk antenatal patients. I also worked on the maternal transport team bringing high-risk patients from other hospitals to Northwestern.
Northbridge Psychiatry, Charleston, South Carolina, Clinical Nurse Specialist-Psychiatry, (03/00-12/00). This position is where I completed all of my necessary hours of supervision to sit for the Nurse Practitioner exam. I was the primary intake coordinator, performing 2-5 new psychiatric evaluations on all new patients entering this private practice daily. I was also supervised in 4

I managed the labor, delivery, and recovery for each labor patient. I also scrubbed and circulated in the OR and recovered patients in the recovery room for Women’s Services.
Trident Hospital, North Charleston, South Carolina, Staff Nurse in Level I and II Newborn Nursery. (05/93-08/94). I worked with both well babies and sick babies from their delivery until discharge. I was at the delivery of each newborn, providing initial assessment of each baby, and then continued their care with their bath, monitoring for the development of any problems, initial developmental exam and administration of vaccines,IVs, and medications as needed. .
Volunteer School Nurse, Granville, Ohio, (08/96-05/97). I volunteered for the school year of 1996-1997 as the back up school nurse. I performed eye examinations, hearing screenings, scoliosis screenings, and monitored for lice checks as well as educated parents on lice treatments. I served as the kindergarten school educator on teeth brushing and hand washing, as well as filled in for the district school nurse in the elementary school nurse's office for medication administration and emergency and/or sick care. I care for mostly high risk patients in labor and delivery, as well as recovered patients for the initial postpartum period. I also scrubbed and circulated in the OR for the Labor and Delivery Units.

Riverside Methodist Hospital/Grant Medical Center, Columbus, Ohio, Staff RN in ICU as well as SICU (01/85-08/86). I worked as a staff RN approximately 50% of the time in both open-heart step down and ICU/SICU. I took care of 1-4 patients 24 hours post-open heart until discharge. I honed my assessment skills, learned cardiac rhythms, dysrhythmias and their treatment, MI care, drew ABGs, maintained Swan-Ganz catheters and arterial lines. I also worked in SICU, caring for mostly level III trauma patients, who required multi-system care for neurologic, cardiac, trauma and other illnesses requiring intensive 1:1 care.
O’Bleness Memorial Hospital, Athens, Ohio, Staff RN, ICU, (06/84-12/84) I worked as a staff RN in Medical/Surgical ICU. I took care of patients in chronic respiratory failure, patients suffering from congestive heart failure, patients experiencing myocardial infarction, and patients experiencing sepsis. I had additional coursework during my MSN which allowed me to sit for and pass the ANCC certification exam as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner in June of 2006, and I was recertified in 2011 by the ANCC as a PMH-NP.

I have completed the 24 hours of coursework for my suboxone waiver, and have submitted the paperwork for my X waiver.
