Resume for James Donald Baker

Work experience

AT&T started Aug 1969 in Rosedale, Ms as a telephone installer repairman. Loved the job working for and learning from many different supervisors and in many different cities in the Mississippi Delta. Spent the last 15 years working in privateline and data services working over most of the delta.

Worked At AT&T from AUG 1969 to Aug 2010

Planters Bank and Trust started Jan 11 2011 working as a Network assistant. We managed a 250 employee 18 branch network through out the state of Mississippi. I was an IT technician in a group of 5 and we handled all the software and hardware throughout the system. I would still be working for them if the coronavirus hadn’t caused the bank to shut down every thing except the drive thrus. This left most of the branches working with skeletal crews and completely releasing a lot of the staff.

I worked at Planters Bank and Trust from Jan 11 2011 to June 12 2020.

Indianola Academy started June 12 2020 working as a substitute teacher for the K through 6th grade. I have taught math, science, physical education, reading, art, music and library classes. It was a challenge to teach and work through the pandemic but we have survived it and lost only 1 coach to it.

I am still working at Indianola Academy now.

Education

Attended Mississippi Delta Community College starting in Sept 1967. I obtained an associate arts degree in electronics while studying under Karl Rushing and Allen Nelms who were two of the best of electronics instructors of the time. I was blessed to attend with a full scholarship in music. During the 2 years there I was first chair drummer in the marching and jazz bands.

I attended MDJC from Sept 1967 to May 1969.

I graduated Indianola High school in April 1967.

SKILLS

I developed quite a few skills through the years from attending Indianola High School in the 60s while there was so much stress, strife and confusion in our country. It was like we had to learn to live with each other and get along again. Lessons learned to be used for a

Lifetime.

In 1969 I joined the National Gaurd to serve my country. Because of my background in electronics I was placed in field radio repair training and aced all the test involved. I actually could have taught most of the classes. I spent 7 rewarding years in the guard in training and teaching.

During my many years working for AT&T I did a lot of installation and repair work. I learned to work elbow to elbow with a lot of people. Although I was never fully into sales I did spend a lot of time talking to and advising customers. It’s a lot like you have to sell them on your company and sometimes on yourself as well. If you are convincing people to stay as a customer and purchase services. You are selling.

During my 10 years with Planters Bank I really improved my computer skills and did a lot of purchasing and replacing existing equipment. Many times I had to advise management on what expenditures were needed and well advised while some were ill advised. One of the most important things I did was to convince the bank to go with a lot of refurbished validators instead of buying new ones. Being that the refurbished was half the price and actually worked better than the new I kind of got a feather in my cap for it.

While at the bank I spent a lot of time working with and communicating with over 250 fellow employees and many customers.

What I need.

I would like a for real work at home Job. I have a good laptop. Please consider me if you have an available position.
