To whom this may concern,
My name is Doreen Lacy. I am interested in being an employee with
As a .
I grew up in Hooper Bay and Dillingham, Alaska. I have lived in Anchorage for 19 years now. I am, according to Ancestory, a third Alaska Native, a third Russian, and a third Norwegian. I self-identify as Native American.
I am a wife and mother of 6 children ages 9-29. I grandmother to 1 age 2. I’ve been away from work for a few years to take care of my mother, who has since passed a few years ago in January. I also taken my teaching background to home-school 3 of my children during COVID until this current year. I planned to apply to go back to work once my children were back in school. Life had another challenge as my 16 year old son had tested positive for COVID. So I waited until everything was okay to restart my career in the education and research field.
My most recent job was with RurAL CAP as an Education Coordinator for Head Start. I was employed there for 3 years. I traveled to many rural communities and worked with many educational institutions throughout my education and research history. I am excited to be back to contribute to our great state.
I also taught for 4 years at a K-12 teacher in Hooper Bay, Mountain Village, Nuiqsut and on Elmendorf Air Force Base (Fairbanks). I’ve taught Pre-K all the way to High School English and Social Studies. During my teaching years I also coached basketball, volleyball, Battle of the Books, Academic Decathlon and Native Youth Olympics.
My research background has been in various topics including Traditional modes of teaching math, Tobacco research in rural Alaska, STDs in rural hubs, HIV/AIDS in the tribal health regions (ANTHC), educational resources for youth with disabilities, and how community organizations in Alaska can work together for healthy people, communities and outcomes.
I am available to work immediately and am willing to travel for work. I hope that I can continue my legacy at the University of Alaska. I am also a proud parent of an upcoming senior attending UAA. I myself obtained my Bachelor’s and Master’s with the University of Alaska Fairbanks, where I also lived and worked for 8 years.
If you have any further questions, my contact information is available and I check my emails frequently. I hope to hear from you soon. Take care and stay safe and warm.
Sincerely,
Doreen Lacy
