CAREER SUMMARY:

I spent my earlier career developing and testing software, but I’m tired of being in that mostly male environment, and am looking for a new direction. J

I did have a temporary data entry job in the past (more info below), which I found very fun and challenging. I also have some experience processing credit cards at the Summit Hut sales (more info below), which they asked me to do part of each sale I worked, because I was doing a good job.

I only left Leidos because we lost our contract. I was originally writing software, and later switched to testing software. I got exposure to several databases (adding, updating, deleting data).

I used Excel every day to keep track of current bugs, and I’ve also used Excel at home.

I helped write at least fifteen Test Plans, as well as some User Manuals, using Microsoft Word.

Since I have good experience with both Excel and several databases, as well as Microsoft Word, I think my skills match what you are looking for.

EDUCATION:

B.S., Computer Science, Highest Honors, Worcester Polytechnic Institute, Worcester MA

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE:

Census Bureau, Tucson, AZ July 2020 – October 2020

Enumerator, Census 2020

Got GREAT customer service experience because not everyone wanted to participate in the census. Therefore, had a large number of mean, and sometimes threatening, reactions to deal with calmly. Used their smartphone app to enter data during my interviews. Sworn to keep people’s data private.

Leidos (formerly Science Applications International Corp.), Tucson, AZ May 1996 – April 2014

Software Test Engineer (8 years) – had TS/SCI clearance

Tested both client-server software running on Windows and Linux, as well as web-based software tools, used for automatic target recognition. This work was funded by the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency, and installed at several government sites.

Tested new releases of the software. Errors tracked using both Excel and Atlassian JIRA.

Tested changes to the database schemas (Oracle, Sybase). Verified that Oracle databases running on multiple platforms synced to the “home” database correctly.

Evaluated the user interfaces and suggested design updates.

Contributed to the development of requirements.

Wrote step-by-step Test Plans, using Microsoft Word, to help customer verify requirements and discrepancy reports. Also wrote some User Manuals. Lots of proof reading experience, as well.

Conducted the multi-day Factory Acceptance Test with the government customer.

Temporary Retail Helper and Credit Card Processor

Worked as temp employee at 10 or more of their twice yearly two day sales. I don’t remember the exact dates. Duties included setting up before, cleaning up after, answering customer questions, and cleaning areas periodically to make sure they looked nice. Also, since they needed to create extra check out lanes, they would use the old fashioned carbon paper card readers. They asked me to spend some of my time entering the credit card data. And since I did a good job, and I felt it was fun, that became part of my regular duties at sales I worked in the future.

This was several months work through a temp agency, and I don’t remember who it was with. I was entering printed data, from a spreadsheet, into a computer.
