My professional career of 33 years as a Power Engineer at Syncrude Canada Ltd. has spanned roles that oversaw plant operations and supervision of plant operational personnel, as well as plant design. I have been a first line supervisor since 1981 and a second line supervisor since 1989.

The Syncrude oil sands operation currently produces over 350,000 barrels of crude per day. The Utilities plant, where I spent significant amount of my profession, produces over 400MW of electricity and 5MPH of steam daily, with all the associated water and air systems and a nitrogen plant.

The majority of my career followed a shift schedule, though I have spent more than 8 years on other projects; a Maintenance Coordinator for 1 year, Production Adviser for 2 years, and I’ve been in Project Management now for 6 years.

My involvement with project management has been mostly in the front end before the start of construction, lending expertise to the planning and design phases of the project. I was the Project Operations division Project Lead for computerizing the Water Treatment Plant control system, DB2 recycle water expansion, and the Syncrude Emissions Reduction project from Design Basis Memorandum (DBM) to Detailed engineering.

I was responsible for organizing and ensuring the training for the shift members, which included a great deal of hands on training. It is also notable that I am a certified sport theory course conductor and have facilitated sessions to groups as large as 35.

I am confident that I play an essential and valuable role in contributing to the goals and objectives of my present position, and I firmly believe that my extensive background and experience merit a review of my current contract and professional opportunities.
