Dear Employer,
I have been interested in computers and electronics since a young age. Fiddling around with computers and electronics has been one of my long-time hobbies as a result. In high school, I took engineering-related electives to learn as much as I could about the subject. When it became time to apply to college, I decided to apply to Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute due to RPI’s strong electrical engineering program. I believed that because of RPI's quality education in engineering I would have a rigorous learning experience. This turned out to be true, RPI challenged me intellectually. I would not pretend that my classes there have been easy. However, at the end of each semester, I felt immense fulfillment for being here at RPI. During my subsequent semesters, I plan to take classes that are related to my interests. Specifically, I am interested in Integrated Circuit design and computer architecture.
I have looked at the background information of this summer job opportunity. The possibility of participating in practical and cutting-edge environment is very exciting and is something that I am passionate about. I would be able to apply electrical engineering related knowledge that I have learned from RPI to contribute to the research on this project. In addition, it will be a great opportunity to expand my knowledge by acquiring practical experience outside of the classroom that my academic classes lacked. This lack of practical experience was exacerbated because of the COVID-19 pandemic many of my classes were online. Working on this project will give me valuable hands-on experience and I hope that I will gain a better understanding of how the multiple disciplines of engineering work together to produce a finished product. For example, in the construction of a generator, electrical engineers and mechanical engineers need to work together in making sure that the finished product is both mechanically sound and fulfills its electrical specifications. Experience in this type of interdisciplinary cooperation is something that will help me greatly in my future career and is key to becoming a successful engineer.
To summarize, I very excited to be able to considered for this opportunity because I believe that it will help me gain practical experience that has been lacking so far in my education. It is an opportunity of a lifetime that will allow me to gain valuable experience that will be useful in my future career. Sincerely,
Waleed Jamil
