If the Captain was not present, I would step in as acting captain. As acting captain, I would also write incident reports and log them, take reports from homeowners and contacting landlords, connecting individuals or families with resources, contacting arson if needed, and upon return to the firehouse, making sure that the truck and tools were maintained and that everything was prepped for the next call.
