We implemented professional learning communities, improved the overall student achievement, and parent involvement. Based on the student academic growth we were able to make positives steps to start to get out of program improvement
Mathematics Director 6/18/12- 6/15/13. Alameda County Office of Education (ACOE), Hayward CA In this capacity, I provide professional development and math support to Alameda County District’s administrators, and teachers around common core alignment and implementation. Support teachers and school leaders participating in the ACOE/Silicon Valley Math Initiative Consortium. Implement network meetings to enhance and build teacher capacity around common core, lesson study, and formative assessment.
Assistant Principal of Curriculum and Instruction 7/20/11- 6/1/12 San Francisco Unified School District, CA I supervised curriculum implementation, development of the master schedule, counseling, testing, data analysis, technology, the SARB program, buildings and grounds, teacher evaluation, hiring, professional development, and the WASC accreditation process. Work closely with teachers to develop effective teaching strategies, review student data, implement coach for success walk-throughs, and participate in department meeting discussions on a weekly basis. As the WASC committee chairman, I trained the staff on procedures so they could become familiar with the self-study report process, facilitated the focus group meetings, wrote portions of the report, and provided overall project management.
Assistant Principal Curriculum and Counseling 8/15/08- 7/20/11 Fairfield Suisun Unified School District, CA Worked closely with teachers across four departments; oversaw student discipline, the SARB program, CAHSEE interventions, school technology, data collection and analysis training, AP and EAP testing, Math and ELA benchmark assessments, transportation, facilities, senior awards, graduation ceremony, and the ELD program. I worked extensively with teachers on lesson planning and implementation of differentiated instruction. I worked with teachers to implement professional learning community practices within the math department to improve collaboration and student academic performance. I served as the school’s in-house data expert. In that capacity, I was responsible for disaggregating and presenting CST, grade, and benchmark assessment data to all staff; I was also responsible for addressing the data needs associated with WASC report preparation.
Math Teacher/Saturday School Program Coordinator 8/06-8/08 Middle School Math Teacher, Berkeley, CA I taught Pre-Algebra and Algebra to 7th and 8th grade students. As the Saturday School coordinator, I kept in close communication with participating students’ families and teachers and the school’s assistant principals. I hired and evaluated Saturday School teachers, and coordinated high school student volunteers working for the program. As a result of this intervention 100 percent of the 8th grade students participating in Saturday School were successfully promoted to high school; 80% passed their Math and English classes with a grade of C or better. Math Teacher 8/03-8/06 Middle/High School Math Teacher San Francisco, CA I taught Pre-Algebra and Algebra to 7th, 8th, and 9th grade students. In addition to teaching math, I was in charge of ensuring that students received math support after school, were exposed to multiple-choice test taking strategies, and general CST test preparation.
