The Ahafo mine is within the portfolio of Newmont mining corporation currently the world’s largest gold mining company. It has a production rate of 35Mtpa with dozens of mobile fleet and a processing plant supported by several fixed infrastructure spread over a lease area of 330sq.km with workforce in excess of 4,000personnel. Accountable and responsible for development and implementation of varied Environmental, Health and Safety programs with an annual budget spend of average $3M and staff strength of 4 personnel directly and 140 contractor personnel. environmental media protection, mine closure and reclamation works, energy management. Covered development, rollout, monitoring and evaluation of varied Safety and Occupational Health and Well-being (physical and psychological) programs including fatality risk prevention and critical controls, permit to work systems, safe systems of work, emergency planning, preparedness and response, mitigation of varied occupational health risks such as ambient dust, particulate matter, noise, radon gas exposure etc. Risk profiling and management. • Successfully led two Continuous Improvement projects on reclamation that delivered a savings in excess of $1.5M against a target of $1M.

• Developed a bushfire management strategy for reclaimed areas to mitigate safety and environmental risks and associated cost.

Role

This was a road project funded by the government of Ghana executed by an international construction company (Messers Sonitra) for a 4.6km three-lane dual-carriageway with two interchanges and service roads.

Member of the laboratory team responsible for ensuring quality of construction and materials. Performance

• Coordinated sampling of materials, testing and reporting for materials for a 1km stretch of the road for a material volume of 500,000cu.m.
