The Addie McBryde Rehabilitation Center is a comprehensive personal adjustment center for adults from 17 to 75 years of age who are blind, visually impaired or deaf-blind. As Recreation and Leisure Education Coordinator, I am responsible for developing, organizing, and administering the Center’s Recreation, Creative Arts, and Leisure Education Program to residential and day clients. Working as a member of an interdisciplinary team, my major responsibilities include (a) administering therapeutic recreational activities that strengthen debilitated muscles resulting from inactivity and/or advanced age (b) conducting patient leisure assessments (c) coordinating the overall treatment plan with the treatment team and patient’s family/care giver to provide a program which focuses on treatment goals (d) developing appropriate leisure activities for lessening psychological and social stresses and improving social interaction skills, and (e) as necessary, modifying techniques and developing new approaches to realize patient treatment goals. Periodically, I arrange special events, such as shopping, movies, picnics, and games which may require adjusting my 7:30 am to 4:00 pm typical schedule, to 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. I sometimes drive (7-passenger van or 15-passengervan) patients to various leisure activities.

Full-time, 40 hours per week. $31,000 per year.

May 2006 to August 2006, Recreation Center Coordinator, Champion Recreation Center, 1355 Hattiesburg Street. Jackson, MS 39204. The Champion Recreation Center provides recreational enrichment programs for area youth. I directed, planned and evaluated the center’s work operation and plans on a continuing basis. During my tenure at the center, recreational activities included trips, arts and crafts, sports and educational activities. I supervised a staff of three recreation aides, and ensured that planned recreational activities were carried out in a safe and efficient manner.. The center served approximately 60 children between the ages of 7 to 12.
