Capstone: Our capstone project examined the critical response function of a municipality and evaluated the town’s emergency management plan. Our group first conducted a risk assessment following the Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC) model. This project used this model and provided a detailed glance at how critical and vulnerable each of the town’s assets are to the emergency response function. The group then took the most critical and most vulnerable assets and combined them into intervention strategies. These strategies focused on the Newfield’s Fire Department and Emergency Operations Center, fire apparatus, wastewater treatment facility, emergency response personnel, and the town’s emergency operation plan. Each strategy contained a set of recommendations. These recommendations were built to determine methods to reduce both critical and vulnerability while being in line with the town's personnel, budget, and culture.
