PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
Research Laboratory Technician
November 2020-present
Indiana School of Medicine, Division of Infectious Disease
Clinical molecular high-throughput SARS-CoV-2 diagnostic testing/screening. RT qPCR screening using highly automated robotic sample handling platform to analyze up to 5,000 specimens for COVID per day; QC monitoring and management to ensure reliability of results; Entering data into online computer system and maintaining documentation; Training new employees in laboratory procedures.
Analytical Testing Laboratory Technician
September 2018-November 2020
Kelly Services, OCG – Sure-Tech Labs
High throughput analytical testing of agricultural soil samples -- 3 sessions. Measured chemical and physical properties of up to 10,000 soil samples per day using multi-place robotic instruments; Evaluated all results for Quality Program Compliance; Prepared and troubleshot instruments using SOPs; Entered data into online (LIMS) system and maintained documentation.
Research Assistant
August 2019-May 2020
Purdue University, West Lafayette, IN
Member of a research team supporting a multi-million dollar USAID initiative researching public/private partnerships in the development sector. Developed and implemented systematic literature review search strategies across multiple databases; Designed document screening processes; Developed and populated Endnote library of relevant documents; Transferred, cleaned, and troubleshot document upload into qualitative software (NVivo) for analysis; Created and populated attributes tables in NVivo. (Co-Author of paper in review).
STUDENT AND INTERNSHIP EXPERIENCE
Graduate Research Assistant
April 2014-December 2014
Purdue University, Department of Botany and Plant Pathology
Investigated corn genetic variants with fungal resistance during storage and the impact of environmental conditions on corn fungal growth during storage in crop storage bags. Identified and characterized corn fungal pathogens; Designed primers.
Summer and Student Internships
Purdue University, Department of Nutrition Science
Supported the work of professor and graduate students in a Nutrition Science Lab that examines the role of oxidative stress in chronic and degenerative diseases and psychological disorders, such as diabetes and ADHD. Developed a procedure for quantifying Nrf2 response to oxidative stress using Western blot; Microscopically quantified neurite length as a proxy for neural damage from oxidative stress using ImageJ software; Analyzed the chemical makeup of natural compounds using solid phase extraction and HPLC; Weighed rats and recorded data for animal behavioral studies; and prepared reagents and performed general lab duties as needed.
Department of Biochemistry – summer research intern
Maintained drosophila stocks for a lab conducting research on molecular mechanisms of neuron connection specificity.
Communications
Purdue Marketing and Media – summer research intern
Interviewed researchers and wrote news releases that translated technical information into lay-language; Gathered information and developed brochures and marketing materials; Provided editorial support for other team members.
