Investigated corn genetic variants with fungal resistance during storage and the impact of environmental conditions on corn fungal growth during storage in crop storage bags. Identified and characterized corn fungal pathogens; Designed primers.

Summer and Student Internships

Purdue University, Department of Nutrition Science

Supported the work of professor and graduate students in a Nutrition Science Lab that examines the role of oxidative stress in chronic and degenerative diseases and psychological disorders, such as diabetes and ADHD. Developed a procedure for quantifying Nrf2 response to oxidative stress using Western blot; Microscopically quantified neurite length as a proxy for neural damage from oxidative stress using ImageJ software; Analyzed the chemical makeup of natural compounds using solid phase extraction and HPLC; Weighed rats and recorded data for animal behavioral studies; and prepared reagents and performed general lab duties as needed.
