PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
Senior Designer/Draftsman
Idaho National Laboratory, Idaho Falls, ID
10/2020 – 09/2021
Utilizing Creo/Windchill and AutoCAD, created and detailed conceptual designs from scientists and engineers for the nuclear industry and the Department of Energy (DOE) for use in an inaccessible environment. This involved utilizing geometrical tolerancing (ASME Y-14) and calculating very tight tolerancing to achieve accurate designs and products. Also changed and converted old designs and drawings to today’s standards and requirements. This was done remotely, under no supervision and was granted USAccess Credentials from the Department of Energy.
Senior Mechanical Engineer / Designer
Hewlett-Packard Enterprise (HPE) (Compaq Computer Corporation) Houston, TX
12/1996 – 11/2019
Utilized Creo (Pro-Engineer) to complete layout assemblies for the Industry Standard Server/Mainstream Group, including the detailing / designing / prototyping / trouble shooting of parts and assemblies, assisting in the plastic and sheet metal tool development, qualifying all worldwide regions before production release and establishing manufacturing procedures. Performed product life cycle testing, thermal design/qualification, and full documentation review. We partnered with the manufacturing group throughout the life of the product and collaborated closely with global ODMs (Foxconn, Inventec, Wistron) on various products.
Reviewed competitors’ products to determine price points and competitive pricing, supported Marketing with quotes for sizeable multi-million dollar orders to win business opportunities.
Designed layout for low piece part counts to reduce product cost $1 million over the life span.
Designed parts to reduce tooling cost, saving $100K.
Estimated the piece part and tool cost, both for hard and soft tooling, to determine the lowest production costs.
Director of Product Engineering
JetFill Inkjet Printer Supplies, Houston TX
01/1995 – 12/1996
Developed a new ink cartridge series used in the inkjet printer industry. Concept and design, plastic tooling development, prototyping, and equipment automation used to fill, seal, and test ink cartridges. We established product specification, efficiency studies, quota standards, qualification, and maintenance of all products and their machinery.
Designed four new product lines.
Increased one conveyor line to 20 conveyor lines within two years.
Increased production from $100K/month to $1M/month within two years.
