I started my apprenticeship at Highveld Steel and Vanadium in 1998 and did my basic and advance training in the Gold Fields training centre at Krugersdorp, passed my trade test with distinction at Olifantsfontein in 2000 under Section 13 and worked for Highveld Steel from 2000 to 2005 as a Rigger artisan. I joined Xstrata coal mine (ATCOM open cast operations--IMPUNZI) in 2005 until 2011 as a Rigger artisan and I joined Evraz Highveld in 2011 June - as a Rigger Training Officer. In 2013 I joined Gijima Training centre as a Rigger Training officer in Middelburg Mpumalanga and in 2021 I joined Babcock Academy as a Rigger Facilitator (Freelance)

MY DAY TO DAY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES AS A RIGGER

TASK

1.Lifting and moving of heavy equipment around the mine/plant or any area - Verifying tasks, do proper planning to execute the task safely, efficiently and effectively.

2.Inspection of all lifting equipments, lifting takle, lifting machines and maintaining records in the inspection log book. (Planned maintanance scheduled).

3.Inspection of steel wire rope slings, chain slings, winch ropes, crane ropes, and all haulage steel wire ropes in the mine.

4.Change drag ropes, hoist ropes, dump ropes and winch ropes on draglines.

5.Change drag chains, dump chains, hoist/drag sockets on drag lines.

6.Change rods on drilling machines - Pit vipers, P21, P22 Ect.

7.Lift engines and cylinders on track dozers, Drilling machines and escavators.

8.Assisting with the recovery of broken down or redundant mining machinery and equipment from the mine face.

9.Daily inspection on all mining machines including, shovels, drills, draglines, escavators and cranes.

10.Drag line house-change drag motors, hoist motors, and generators inside the drag line.

11.Inside workshops - turn 777, 785 buckets upside down.

12.Managing spares requirements of rigging equipment to ensure availability.

13.Conducting regular safety inspections and initiating corrective action if necessary.

14. Operate mibile crane (150T) mobile crane, overhead crane, truck mounted crane- (Hi-ab)

15.Plant-change screens and crushers, gear boxes, pumps and other plant equipments.

16.Team mentoring and coaching – work well with Rigger assisstants.

17.Complying with legal and mine safety standards and procedures in all work performed according to the Mine Health and Safety Act and Occupational health and Safety Act.

18.Promote and maintain good house keeping, Safety Health Environment and Quality issues.
