During the research it was found that geographical information system (GIS) tool play a very
important role in environmental planning. GIS technology can be used in mapping of natural
resources and for effective data input, retrieval, update, visualization, analysis, modeling, among
other functions in order to give recommendations where need arises. It can be applied in disaster
management, determination of land use land cover changes, management of natural resources
hence guidance in environmental planning. Reducing the risks caused by climate change is an
immense challenge. Scientists, policy makers, developers, engineers, and many others have used
geographic information system (GIS) technology to better understand a complex situation and
offer some tangible solutions. This research project will impact the environmental planners, urban planners, policymakers,
scholars, and the Phoenix community.
